Which health care professional can I visit for ADHD evaluation?

I suspect I have ADHD, and I want to get tested.

I am under my father’s Aetna Signature Administrator employee insurance.

What type of physician would be covered under medical insurance that can test for ADD? Which one would cost the CHEAPEST?

Psychiatrist, Neurologist, etc.?

How long does the testing take, and how much would it cost me all in all?

If you were diagnosed with ADHD, can you tell me of your experience?

Thanks so much.

The 2 minutes video should give you data about ADHD testing.

It was in the early 1960s when American psychiatrist Leon Eisenberg announced that normal childhood behaviors such as fidgeting and inattention were supposedly signs of a psychiatric “syndrome”, later called Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or “ADHD”. He had no medical proof, of course, no blood tests, X-Rays or brain scans showing ACTUAL PHYSICAL disease. Shortly before his death in 2009, psychiatrist Leon Eisenberg confessed that ADHD was a terrible mistake, calling it “A prime example of a fictitious disease”.
A less than 2 minutes video explains it all

adhd online assessment

Is it hard to distinguish Adult ADHD from other mental illnesses? Who can diagnose it? Where can I seek help?

And who can diagnose and prescribe medication for it?

Do I have to pay $250/hour to see a Psychiatrist for help??
I read that psychologist can’t help much.

I took many evaluations online and they say that there is a very high probability I have a “serious case” of Adult ADHD. I understand that no test can be used as a diagnostics, that is why I ask this question.

The specific laws vary by where you are living, but where I live the only person who can make a diagnosis of ADHD is a psychiatrist. A GP may be a good first point of call though, as they’re often well equipped to recognise common mental disorders (of course, some suck at it unfortunately).

And it is absolutely true that ADHD can be difficult to distinguish from other medical illnesses. Anxiety disorders are probably the biggest culprits, as they can cause both restlessness and hyperactivity, and well as greatly impair ones ability to concentrate. Depression also causes difficulty concentrating. Drug side effects and withdrawal, various non-psychiatric medical conditions… That’s pretty much why they require a psychiatrist to make the assessment.

Am i Bi polar or just having a bad run?

im 23 yr old male. experianced my first episode of major depression
while studying abroad. the stress of moving obvioulsy triggered it.
i cam home 2 months later went onto anti depressants was better the 7 months later another depression came abt got better 11 months later another episode. bak on A.Ds got better now all im on is ritalin and it seems to be working well. thoughts have slowed down. so thats 3 episodes. do i just battkle with depression and my tghinkin or am i bi polar??dont think iv experianced mania i mean obv i am alot happier and grteful when not depreseed but no 1 can notic or has ever said anythng abt me being overly happy

As has been said, only a trained professional such as a psychiatrist can say for sure if you have bipolar or not.

It may be worth checking with a psychiatrist because racing thoughts are a symptom of bipolar. On the other hand, if you have ADHD, it may simply be that. (I’m assuming that’s why you’re taking the Ritalin) If you are entirely happy with the speed of your thinking then I personally wouldn’t worry about whether I might be bipolar. But I found that the only thing that truly worked to sort out my racing thoughts was a mood stabilizer. And that worked like a dream – one day there, next day gone and they very rarely reappear. If the medication works though, for me it doesn’t matter what my disorder happens to be labelled.

As far as the depression goes, it seems that you have a tendency to depression. There are lots of forms of mood disorder and you don’t have to have bipolar to have one. There are other ways of treating depression besides medication and it would definitely be worth your while to explore them. Of course you should take medication as well, whenever a period of clinical depression sets in, but learning to follow lifestyle tips for overcoming depression and learning Cognitive Behavioural Therapy techniques for managing a mood disorder can all help you to either prevent the onset of depression or counteract it and get treatment promptly so it doesn’t have a chance to get really enbedded.

For tips on self care for depression see http://www.helpguide.org/mental/depression_tips.htm There are many free online courses for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy such as the one at www.moodgym.com If that one doesn’t suit your needs just search for another. Eventually you’ll get a toolkit together to manage your condition and that will make it feel a lot less like you’re constantly battling depression and racing thoughts.

Is it dangerous to take both Trileptal and amphetmines?

Trileptal is a mood stabilizer and amphetamines are used to treat ADHD. I plan on asking my psychiatrist but for a faster response, do you know if it is dangerous to take both of them together daily? I know Trileptal is bad when mixed with antidepressants, alcohol, etc but I can’t find any information on it with amphetmines. Thanks!

Trileptal is a mild anticonvulsant and has an off label use in treating bipolar mania. While it’s prescribed as a mood stabilizer, it’s a very old drug and is less prevelant than Depakote, Lamictal and Topomax.

There are no negative interactions between trileptal and antidepressants, as they are commonly prescribed together to treat bipolar depression.

There are no negative drug interactions between Trileptal and amphetamine.

Unless you are eplieptic; you will not feel anything from taking trileptal. If you are bipolar, you may or may not feel something from trileptal.

Adhd Technology In The Classroom

adhd technology in the classroom

Emotional and Behavioural Disorders?

Hi I am focusing on ADHD and Autism. If i was to teach a class what types of assitive technologies could I use in the classroom to help these students learn. What types of emotional and behavioural problems do these students have and how does it affect their concentration. What information is there about these conditions. Any websites, suggestions please thank you.

It would be very beneficial to the students to be given instruction or asked questions in short, clear easy to understand sentences. And always ensure they have understood what is required of them, buy asking them if they do, but ALSO getting them to re-tell you what you asked in their own words.

Visual and verbal prompting for any transition is essential, use visual schedules, first and then boards, timers, etc etc.

Keep sessions short as boredom can set in quite quickly and cause loss of concentration. Keep lessons interesting by using subjects of interest to an individual.

Emotionally, these students may like their own company a lot of the time, which does not mean they don’t want to have friends, usually they do, but dont know HOW to make friends as their social skills are poor. They may become upset or frustrated due to sensory issues, e.g noise, crowds etc. Conforming to school rules is extremely draining for these students, understanding and realisation that this is not their fault is vital.

There lots of useful info out there about adhd and asd conditions.
For example on the NAS website, Cerebra website, and ADHD .org.uk

Do I have a some sort of disorder?

I have bunch of tremors and I move my hands and legs in unusual ways(hand flapping, arm swinging, rocking back and forth while sitting, feet tapping, odd arm movement)(mostly when in public)I always had an awkward walk and never really kept my friendships.I was kind of bullied and taken advantage of in school,Don’t know how to keep conversations going and hate small talk; But It doesn’t bother me.The odd body movement ,Can it be Parkinson’s?I’m only 18 and always been socially awkward and cope with my anxieties by acting as silly as I could in school.About 4 years I’ve been completely unsocial because I don’t care about making friends but I still move very retardedly in public. What is it with these tremors,When I do them I know I do them like I know when I do them but their still out of control.
Can I have some sort of disorder? if you have any idea please tell me

What you describe doesn’t sound so much like tremors but flapping as you also describe. Perhaps twitches rather than tremors?

While you are not too young for Parkinson’s Disease, this doesn’t sound at all like PD symptoms.

It does, however, sound as if you need a medical diagnosis. Here are a few options and links:

The symptoms could be a form of Autism. Don’t panic and don’t think stereotypes. Autism can take many forms.
http://www.brighttots.com/Autistic_behaviors.html

Go to the home page at the site above and check a few other conditions listed. You might want to have a parent available so that you can ask questions about childhood behavior patterns.
http://www.brighttots.com/autism.html

You will see Aspergers Syndrome, a milder form of autism, as well as a genetic disorder, Fragile X:
http://www.fragilex.org/html/behavior.htm

Reading about Fragile X may lead you to read about ADHD:
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/adhd/DS00275/DSECTION=symptoms

Here are links to 2 sites related to another issue you mention: anxiety
http://www.anxietycentre.com/anxiety-symptoms.shtml
http://www.helpguide.org/mental/anxiety_types_symptoms_treatment.htm

I also found an interesting summary chart comparing the symptoms of Autism to mercury poisoning. It is probably more productive just to note the autism column:
http://www.whale.to/a/table_a.htm

You do have a medical condition and it is overdue for treatment – I don’t think these are just growing pains. You should get a family medical history from both of your parents as well as a timeline of when your various symptoms first occurred – were first observed by you and by your family. Put all of that into writing so that you can take it with you when you seek a proper diagnosis.

Best wishes.

I'm pretty sure my whole life has been. messed up because of my ADHD. I wake up every morning and not feel like moving or doing So do I sit and sleep and lack of education. Then when I wake up, all I do is just laze around. Home games or scientific fields. I have been told that I am beautiful and intelligent. Has the potential to succeed. But for some reason I can not understand the fact that I graduated and could be kicked out if I do not have to go to school. My parents are. Does not give me any treatment. What follows is my own ADHD. I just want to help someone. … Out there help me Yours sincerely, Mike Jones.

I have ADHD and I know that. That no matter what anyone says, the school will be hard for me and you, and just the fact that we're going to have to deal with until we graduated. I have severe ADHD, and I refuse to use drugs. It makes me depressed. I thought to myself, "Yes, it would be difficult for me than for others. Unfortunately for us there is no miracle pill that will allow us to have the attention of others and you. ADHD self-assesment?

I took a self-assessment of ADHD, it says I have a higher chance of having ADHD. I want to get the diagnosis and treatment of this They suggest 'print and apply your results to your doctor. What physicians think of this or not. What do you think will help or harm my case for drugs such as Adderal or Ritalin?

You only have to have those drugs if you are young and out of control for hypertext. ADHD is the second issue I want to put together, they are kept apart. Add as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. It causes people to lose their focus and think something else. That about a lot. The only way to control the work to maintain your interest. I have found that deep breathing. It helps to have people put too are Good spellers are not afraid to be put to remember what they put for the rest of the documents and books are often out in the table to remind them of them. And they will be more overlap. ADHD is just that if you are mature enough at what you have to do is decide to control yourself and control yourself and your short attention span will be faster. This will be lost.

Besides meditating 24/7 and taking adderall for ADHD, are there any other new alternatives?

My mind won’t shut down to think of nothingness.

Alderall is spit! Alan Watt went into detail on that in one of his shows, I would give you the link to the talk but it doesn’t seem to be there anymore, but self-acceptance would be a good move. What if you saw ADHD as a gift, rather than a curse? Free your mind. Accept nothingness and your heart will still beat.

Where can I apply for a scholarship for ADHD?!?!?

I heard that you can receive a scholarship for having ADHD, which I have. : / But I heard that it has to do with the Americans With Disabilities Act, but I cannot find where to apply for it. So, please help?! I really need all the grants I can receive for college. : ) thank you.

Scholarships are given out by many many many private organizations and corporations. In order to apply, you have to find one willing to give it. Needless to say, this is not an easy search. You also need to be aware that scholarships are given out based on MERIT (something you accomplish) like a high GPA or high admission test scores. A medical diagnosis may not be considered a great accomplishment worthy of getting money. How in the world would the organization decide who gets it?
There is a database of many scholarship opportunities that you might apply for and it is called http://fastweb.com however, keep in mind that literally tens of thousands of kids use this and so you may have literally thousands of applications for one scholarship.

adhd routine

Please make suggestions for routine- ADHD 4 yr old and infant?

4 yr old with ADHD and major sensory seeking issues(a real firecracker)
5 month old-easygoing

This is what we’ve got that’s constant now:

7am-ish 4 yr old son wakes plays and eats
8am-baby wakes eats hangs in kitchen with mom while i eat and do dishes
10am ish- baby naps- I get shower
11am ish- start preparing lunch for 4 yr old
12:15 4 yr old on bus
12:45 ish run a quick errand
1:30/2pm baby nap time
3:15 son home from school
6pm dinner
8pm baby is in bed (half the time)
8:30 4 yr old to sleep

It’s hard because school is in the midle of the day and once my 4 yr old comes home he’s tired and more uhhhh…spazzy. But engaging him in activities he likes keeps him busy which is better for everyone. What should I change or add? Thanks for helping 🙂

I’d get him activities he can complete. Like modeling clay…so that it dries into sculptures. And the Elmer’s non-messy paint brushes. My daughter’s 5 and I have a 3 year old as well. Neither have ADHD, but my 5 yr old is very active…which is just normal for the age. Very hands on. Moon Sand is great. You can even get a table cloth (plastic) to put on the floor under him, get a dish rubbermaid tub and put some water with toy boats in it. Bubbles in those non-spill containers are great…and eventually those will keep the baby entertained too. Change it up every day. Work on letters and have him doing writing or coloring of work sheets.

Big discrepancy between iq points??What’s wrong with me?

My performance iq is 147 and my verbal iq is 112. That is an 35 difference. I am 15 years old. I’m interested in knowing why the discrepancy is so much. My psychologist said something about maybe ADD and a low self esteem but i don’t understand why that could have such an impact on my verbal iq.

So just to be clear my question is why the big dicrepancy and what might cause this?

I apologise for my english it’s not my first language.

These discrepancies can and, as you’ve experienced, do happen. I assume you took the WISC evaluation since this test evaluates performance and verbal indices.

The discrepancy could arise for different issues. ADD is a possibility, so is ADHD, or you are process visual information much better than verbal information. Here’s a list of characteristics found in visual learners.

• Learns through seeing
• Reader/observer
• Scans everything; wants to see things, enjoys visual stimulation
• Enjoys maps, pictures, diagrams, and color
• Needs to see the teacher’s body language/facial expression to fully comprehend
• Often closes their eyes to visualize or remember something
• Daydreams; a word, sound, or smell causes recall and mental wandering
• Usually takes detailed notes to absorb the information
• May think in pictures and learn best from visual displays such as diagrams, illustrated
textbooks, overhead transparencies, PowerPoint presentations, videos, and handouts
• Tends to prefer sitting at the front of the classroom to avoid visual obstructions
• Is usually neat and clean
• Finds something to watch if they are bored
• Benefits from illustrations and presentations that use color
• Is attracted to written or spoken language rich in imagery
• Finds passive surroundings ideal
• Have a clear view of your teachers when they are speaking so you can see their body
language and facial expression
• Use color to highlight important points in the text
• Take detailed notes and utilize handouts
• Use visual materials such as pictures, charts, maps, and graphs
• Use multi-media such as computers or videos
• Study in a quiet place away from verbal disturbances
• Visualize information as a picture to aid memorization and learning
• Make charts, graphs, and tables in your notes
• Participate actively in class—this will keep you involved and alert
• When memorizing material, write it over and over
• Keep pencil and paper handy so you can write down good ideas

What movie depicts teen violence?

I need to find a clip from a movie that depicts teen violence or “acting out” either in a school or home setting. Or a kid with ADHD.

The most violent and disturbing teen movie for sure, is “Bully”. It stars Brad Renfro and Nick Stahl as longtime best friends. It is a true story. Nick Stahl portrays Bobbie Kent, who was a kid who terrorized Brad Renfro, who plays Bobbie’s real life best friend, Marty Puccio. Bobbie was so abusive and violent to Marty and his girlfriend and her friend that a group of them, decide to kill Bobbie. They do kill him. The killing is so graphic and violent, it is hard to watch. In real life, these events happened in like 1993, but in the movie, it’s like present day. Marty and 2 of the other guys who helped kill Bobby are still in prison.

adhd not real

Do you think ADHD is real

When my little brother had been diagnosed as ADHD and to use Ritalin, my problem that he can play games such as Final Fantasy hours and not moving. Nature in itself is a direct conflict with the diagnosis.

A connection between ADHD and disorders of the strong, safe and the senses are. And if a video game is very much a case that has evoked. He will want to see whether the stimulation that he would like. But to sit and listen to the teacher. Talking or even reading a book does not encourage him, and he lost his concentration. I believe it is a real diagnosis. But everyone at school can 'control' has not been fixed that ADHD. So it's really over – diagnosis.

Adhd Rating Scale 4

adhd rating scale 4

adhd rating scale 4

How would u rate the following 15 drugs?

on a scale from 1-10 (1-least dangerous; 10-most hard core)

weed
coke
crack
acid
x
heroin
angel dust
speed
meth
ludes
mescaline
shrooms
roofies
DMT
GHB

In order to quantify the danger of a given drug it is necessary to give a context. Drugs are only as hardcore as their users. Take meth for example, a notoriously ‘dangerous’ drug, which is tactually administered safely in a medical setting as a treatment for ADHD (brand name Desoxyn).

That said, based on the trends of their users, I made some generalizations and compared their various qualities. You’ll notice that all drugs have their different risks. It’s up to the user to recognize them and take the proper precautions accordingly. Always do your research before trying something new.

Health issues – Cannabis 2, cocaine salt (‘coke’) 9, cocaine freebase (‘crack’) 9, LSD (‘acid’) 1, Ecstasy tablets 7, MDMA (pure Ecstasy ingredient) 3, heroin 10, PCP (‘angel dust’) 5, methamphetamine (‘meth’) 5, methaqualone (‘ludes’) 7, mescaline 1, psilocybin mushrooms 1, Flunitrazepam (‘roofies’) 7, DMT 1, GHB 7.

Addiction potential – Cannabis 4, cocaine salt 9, cocaine freebase 10, LSD 1, Ecstasy tablets 2, MDMA 2, heroin 9, PCP 3, methamphetamine 8, methaqualone 6, mescaline 1, psilocybin mushrooms 1, Flunitrazepam 6, DMT 1, GHB 4.

Dysfunction of effects – Cannabis 3, cocaine salt 2, freebase cocaine 2, LSD 8, Ecstasy tablets 4, MDMA 4, heroin 6, PCP 10, methamphetamine 1, methaqualone 4, mescaline , psilocybin mushrooms 8, Flunitrazepam 5, DMT 10, GHB 3.

Psychological impact – Cannabis 5, cocaine salt 4, freebase cocaine 5, LSD 10, Ecstasy tablets 7, MDMA 6, heroin 3, PCP 4, methamphetamine 4, methaqualone 2, mescaline 8, psilocybin mushrooms 8, Flunitrazepam 2, DMT 8, GHB 1.

how could I make the effects of a soft Asperger’s easier? what kind of therapies exists? or things to read?

i have asked this thing, but have put it in a wrong category.
i live in romania, so i think i can’t really base on the free public healthcare sistem.
i haven’t been at a doctor yet, i can cope with life in general, but have problems with social behavior and unerstanding other people. i can concentrate on things, using a set of conditions, but have problems with making the connection between different sets of it (different thematics, etc). I also read wery quick (it may be a proof for having that syndrome).

What Is Asperger Syndrome?
By Barbara L. Kirby
Founder of the OASIS Web site (www.aspergersyndrome.org)
Co-author of THE OASIS GUIDE TO ASPERGER SYNDROME (Crown, 2001, Revised 2005)
Asperger Syndrome or (Asperger’s Disorder) is a neurobiological disorder named for a Viennese physician, Hans Asperger, who in 1944 published a paper which described a pattern of behaviors in several young boys who had normal intelligence and language development, but who also exhibited autistic-like behaviors and marked deficiencies in social and communication skills. In spite of the publication of his paper in the 1940’s, it wasn’t until 1994 that Asperger Syndrome was added to the DSM IV and only in the past few years has AS been recognized by professionals and parents.

Individuals with AS can exhibit a variety of characteristics and the disorder can range from mild to severe. Persons with AS show marked deficiencies in social skills, have difficulties with transitions or changes and prefer sameness. They often have obsessive routines and may be preoccupied with a particular subject of interest. They have a great deal of difficulty reading nonverbal cues (body language) and very often the individual with AS has difficulty determining proper body space. Often overly sensitive to sounds, tastes, smells, and sights, the person with AS may prefer soft clothing, certain foods, and be bothered by sounds or lights no one else seems to hear or see. It’s important to remember that the person with AS perceives the world very differently. Therefore, many behaviors that seem odd or unusual are due to those neurological differences and not the result of intentional rudeness or bad behavior, and most certainly not the result of “improper parenting”.

By definition, those with AS have a normal IQ and many individuals (although not all), exhibit exceptional skill or talent in a specific area. Because of their high degree of functionality and their naiveté, those with AS are often viewed as eccentric or odd and can easily become victims of teasing and bullying. While language development seems, on the surface, normal, individuals with AS often have deficits in pragmatics and prosody. Vocabularies may be extraordinarily rich and some children sound like “little professors.” However, persons with AS can be extremely literal and have difficulty using language in a social context.

At this time there is a great deal of debate as to exactly where AS fits. It is presently described as an autism spectrum disorder and Uta Frith, in her book AUTISM AND ASPERGER’S SYNDROME, described AS individuals as “having a dash of Autism”. Some professionals feel that AS is the same as High Functioning Autism, while others feel that it is better described as a Nonverbal Learning Disability. AS shares many of the characteristics of PDD-NOS (Pervasive Developmental Disorder; Not otherwise specified), HFA, and NLD and because it was virtually unknown until a few years ago, many individuals either received an incorrect diagnosis or remained undiagnosed. For example, it is not at all uncommon for a child who was initially diagnosed with ADD or ADHD be re-diagnosed with AS. In addition, some individuals who were originally diagnosed with HFA or PDD-NOS are now being given the AS diagnosis and many individuals have a dual diagnosis of Asperger Syndrome and High Functioning Autism.

For your information, I’ve included below a copy of the DSM IV Description. In addition, I’ve also added a more down-to-earth description that was originally posted to the autism listserv.
