adhd online assessment

Is it hard to distinguish Adult ADHD from other mental illnesses? Who can diagnose it? Where can I seek help?

And who can diagnose and prescribe medication for it?

Do I have to pay $250/hour to see a Psychiatrist for help??
I read that psychologist can’t help much.

I took many evaluations online and they say that there is a very high probability I have a “serious case” of Adult ADHD. I understand that no test can be used as a diagnostics, that is why I ask this question.

The specific laws vary by where you are living, but where I live the only person who can make a diagnosis of ADHD is a psychiatrist. A GP may be a good first point of call though, as they’re often well equipped to recognise common mental disorders (of course, some suck at it unfortunately).

And it is absolutely true that ADHD can be difficult to distinguish from other medical illnesses. Anxiety disorders are probably the biggest culprits, as they can cause both restlessness and hyperactivity, and well as greatly impair ones ability to concentrate. Depression also causes difficulty concentrating. Drug side effects and withdrawal, various non-psychiatric medical conditions… That’s pretty much why they require a psychiatrist to make the assessment.

Adhd Technology In The Classroom

adhd technology in the classroom

Emotional and Behavioural Disorders?

Hi I am focusing on ADHD and Autism. If i was to teach a class what types of assitive technologies could I use in the classroom to help these students learn. What types of emotional and behavioural problems do these students have and how does it affect their concentration. What information is there about these conditions. Any websites, suggestions please thank you.

It would be very beneficial to the students to be given instruction or asked questions in short, clear easy to understand sentences. And always ensure they have understood what is required of them, buy asking them if they do, but ALSO getting them to re-tell you what you asked in their own words.

Visual and verbal prompting for any transition is essential, use visual schedules, first and then boards, timers, etc etc.

Keep sessions short as boredom can set in quite quickly and cause loss of concentration. Keep lessons interesting by using subjects of interest to an individual.

Emotionally, these students may like their own company a lot of the time, which does not mean they don’t want to have friends, usually they do, but dont know HOW to make friends as their social skills are poor. They may become upset or frustrated due to sensory issues, e.g noise, crowds etc. Conforming to school rules is extremely draining for these students, understanding and realisation that this is not their fault is vital.

There lots of useful info out there about adhd and asd conditions.
For example on the NAS website, Cerebra website, and ADHD .org.uk

When you write to think about what her weaknesses, and what specifically you want to see the changes. For example, if you curretnly reading in the elementary years. 3, and you want to see that go. Be a reasonable target. : Susan will be reading at grade level. 4 is a test of the WRAT reading test. If you are concerned about her ability to sit still or focus, and she now can not. To do more than five minutes is a reasonable target. : Susan will sit for 20 minutes of class time without leaving your seat, as measured by the criteria of five minutes. It is clear that the real goal will depend on your child's school, etc. And these are just examples. In simple terms, think of her, and why you want her to be. End of the year in any area.

Adhd Handbook For Schools

What is the name of this career?

Hello. So I’m looking around at potential careers that I may be interested in pursuing. I’m extremely interested in child psychology, but there is a specific career I’d like to know more about, yet I don’t know the real name for it.
What is the name of the career for someone who goes around to different elementary schools and tests children for disabilities?

At first I was thinking “early intervention psychologist”, but they typically work with kids 2 years old and under. Most physical disabilites are caught by then. Once you get into the older kids, disability testing is often done for less obvious handicaps like dyslexia, ADHD, color blindness, speech impediments, etc. – though some late-stage physical handicaps will emerge.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics’ “Occupational Outlook Handbook” lists “school psychologist” as a generalized field within psychology:

“School psychologists work with students in early childhood and elementary and secondary schools. They collaborate with teachers, parents, and school personnel to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments for all students. School psychologists address students’ learning and behavioral problems, suggest improvements to classroom management strategies or parenting techniques, and evaluate students with disabilities and gifted and talented students to help determine the best way to educate them.

They improve teaching, learning, and socialization strategies based on their understanding of the psychology of learning environments. They also may evaluate the effectiveness of academic programs, prevention programs, behavior management procedures, and other services provided in the school setting.”

Some school psychologists are employed by and serve a whole district, while others travel to various districts, private institutions, clinics and state agencies. There are also school social workers and school counselors who might do limited psychological evaluations.

adhd behavioral interventions

what answer to give principal?

I have a meeting with the school tomorrow about my son who has adhd and odd. He is in special education and we are meeting to make modifications to his behavioral intervention plan. he is currently on a demerit system which is not working because they put all of the attention on negative behavior instead of positive behavior. The school thinks the answer is sending him to in school suspension everytime he is disrespectful. The principal wnts to know what punishment I want him to get when he is disrespectful but I don’t have an answer anymore. The psychiatrist says not to spank him and it doesn’t help to ggive him ISS in school suspension. He can’t get extra work because he has a problem finishing what he has to do. What do you suggest? Please help!

Could you actually just talk basics tomorrow, and possibly have the psychiatrist come in for another meeting *s/he may or may not do it and it may be costly* and give his recommendations. Or write up a report.
Maybe you can find a clinical psychologist that specializes in either child psychology or behavior analysis, have him review all of your childs reports, documents, etc. (psych evals, discipline forms, etc) and have them either write a report with his recommendations or come in.
You need to actually focus more on positive behavior reinforcement, than punishment. Which shows to have more effect on behavior.
Chemical whatever, it sounds liek you are just spewing stuff from a personal opinion not research. Research has shown that corporal punishment does not help in the long term for correcting behavior. It actually has several negative effects.
Also, suspension isnt nor should be the only answer to deal with misbehavior. Too many schools still in this day, only use this method. When I worked in the behavior disorder unit at the middle school, suspension was more of a reward to them, rather than a punishment.

adhd certification

I need to get my medical certification, but I took Ritalin as a child. How will this affect me?

I took Ritalin as a young child for ADHD, but I am now twenty and have been off of any sort of mind-altering drug for nearly a decade. I am supposed to go get my 3rd class medical certification tomorrow, but I am worried about how the drugs I took in the past may impact my certification.

So will the fact that I took Ritalin as a child prevent me from getting my 3rd, 2nd or even 1st class medical certification? If so, is there anything I could do to get around it (doctor’s confirmation that I have been off of these drugs, etc)?

It should have no effect. Your medical exam has to do with your fitness to fly at the present time.

You will be asked questions about your current medical and psychological condition, medications, etc. Questions about your past medical issues, particularly those of ten years ago, will not likely be addressed.

Good luck on your flying career and cheers!

Where can I apply for a scholarship for ADHD?!?!?

I heard that you can receive a scholarship for having ADHD, which I have. : / But I heard that it has to do with the Americans With Disabilities Act, but I cannot find where to apply for it. So, please help?! I really need all the grants I can receive for college. : ) thank you.

Scholarships are given out by many many many private organizations and corporations. In order to apply, you have to find one willing to give it. Needless to say, this is not an easy search. You also need to be aware that scholarships are given out based on MERIT (something you accomplish) like a high GPA or high admission test scores. A medical diagnosis may not be considered a great accomplishment worthy of getting money. How in the world would the organization decide who gets it?
There is a database of many scholarship opportunities that you might apply for and it is called http://fastweb.com however, keep in mind that literally tens of thousands of kids use this and so you may have literally thousands of applications for one scholarship.

So you think that Matt Morgan should be the TNA World Heavyweight Champion somewhere in the next year?

He has proven himself time and time again that he is a great wrestler, the fans want him to become champion, and he’s a good guy to represent the company because of his involvement with CHADD. Morgan was diagnosed with ADHD when he was a a child and CHADD is a nonprofit organization called CHildren and Adults with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Matt has been involved with the organization for about 3 years. What do you think about Matt Morgan?

i have liked morgan since he became the blueprint, he has impressed me and him doing charity work which i would assume is close to his heart just shows what a good soul he actually is.

adhd information for kids

Why are children in the article. Composition / information on disorders of learning almost every time. Based?

Do people think that disabled people magically outgrow their learning when they Receive a certificate of their high school class or not. I suspect I may have heard of processing disorders. But all I could find on it is the parents of children with abnormalities. With most Other disorders. Such as ADHD (with everything else in the adult ADHD, but typically an article written to the parent). It's disappointing. I think the level of some conflict of interest. The relevant information. Naturally, children, unlike adults next Therefore, diagnostic criteria are slightly different. This also tought to find a way to adults. (Who, like me, work and go to college.) To cope and deal with their problems. I only posted this or not. I plan to consult a doctor. But to get good information. And ideas from various sources.

People tend to cause a child to a disorder and need information after their parents to the problem of the government.

Special room of the school to do what the ADHD. 7th grade for those who do not live in medicaion?

Thank you! Teachers seem to have no patience.

Teachers are taught to respond with more patience if a person is officially diagnosed with ADHD. However, there are limits to this resistance. If the child constantly interrupt the flow of instruction for Damage to the rest of the class may have children placed in special needs.

adhd information for parents

My parents do, I'll tell you what I think?

I want to tell my parents that I thought I might have put (ADHD), without making it so "stupid" they are not paid. Attention to it, or laugh or just ignore it and say I did. I've tried to tell my sister. But she did not think so, and assured me a few weeks. I'm looking all the time. Information that could approve my opinion. But I'm still not sure enough. I do not think I have enough courage to tell them because I know that they will consider talking to me in the future.

Im sure that it is difficult for you to say that your parents and with the courage to tell. You must tell them.Have them. But they sit down and have a serious heart to heart discussion with them and Tell them how you feel.Hopefully they will understand good luck:).

adhd help for parents

Questions about ADHD and how my parents.

I have fought with great emphasis on school and stay on track,. Remember things are unorganized,. The hyperactive and often very forgetful of what I wear. It is a journey to the point that it is interfering with my academic performance in college and my relationship began almost as a friend to get annoyed at how much I lose things and forget things. I have tried talking to my parents about it. But they refused to listen and tell me that the increase and concentration is just an excuse for kids to do everything we say and that it is fake. Disorders that all children seem to have today. I'll talk to them so that they will respect me and listen to know that it will be a good idea to think about the fact that I can have a short attention span and I have been helped or not. >> I'll go to the doctor on your own. But we have really crappy insurance and doctor visits would cost us a couple of hundred dollars that will get me in deep shit with them. They tell me not to.

how could I make the effects of a soft Asperger’s easier? what kind of therapies exists? or things to read?

i have asked this thing, but have put it in a wrong category.
i live in romania, so i think i can’t really base on the free public healthcare sistem.
i haven’t been at a doctor yet, i can cope with life in general, but have problems with social behavior and unerstanding other people. i can concentrate on things, using a set of conditions, but have problems with making the connection between different sets of it (different thematics, etc). I also read wery quick (it may be a proof for having that syndrome).

What Is Asperger Syndrome?
By Barbara L. Kirby
Founder of the OASIS Web site (www.aspergersyndrome.org)
Co-author of THE OASIS GUIDE TO ASPERGER SYNDROME (Crown, 2001, Revised 2005)
Asperger Syndrome or (Asperger’s Disorder) is a neurobiological disorder named for a Viennese physician, Hans Asperger, who in 1944 published a paper which described a pattern of behaviors in several young boys who had normal intelligence and language development, but who also exhibited autistic-like behaviors and marked deficiencies in social and communication skills. In spite of the publication of his paper in the 1940’s, it wasn’t until 1994 that Asperger Syndrome was added to the DSM IV and only in the past few years has AS been recognized by professionals and parents.

Individuals with AS can exhibit a variety of characteristics and the disorder can range from mild to severe. Persons with AS show marked deficiencies in social skills, have difficulties with transitions or changes and prefer sameness. They often have obsessive routines and may be preoccupied with a particular subject of interest. They have a great deal of difficulty reading nonverbal cues (body language) and very often the individual with AS has difficulty determining proper body space. Often overly sensitive to sounds, tastes, smells, and sights, the person with AS may prefer soft clothing, certain foods, and be bothered by sounds or lights no one else seems to hear or see. It’s important to remember that the person with AS perceives the world very differently. Therefore, many behaviors that seem odd or unusual are due to those neurological differences and not the result of intentional rudeness or bad behavior, and most certainly not the result of “improper parenting”.

By definition, those with AS have a normal IQ and many individuals (although not all), exhibit exceptional skill or talent in a specific area. Because of their high degree of functionality and their naiveté, those with AS are often viewed as eccentric or odd and can easily become victims of teasing and bullying. While language development seems, on the surface, normal, individuals with AS often have deficits in pragmatics and prosody. Vocabularies may be extraordinarily rich and some children sound like “little professors.” However, persons with AS can be extremely literal and have difficulty using language in a social context.

At this time there is a great deal of debate as to exactly where AS fits. It is presently described as an autism spectrum disorder and Uta Frith, in her book AUTISM AND ASPERGER’S SYNDROME, described AS individuals as “having a dash of Autism”. Some professionals feel that AS is the same as High Functioning Autism, while others feel that it is better described as a Nonverbal Learning Disability. AS shares many of the characteristics of PDD-NOS (Pervasive Developmental Disorder; Not otherwise specified), HFA, and NLD and because it was virtually unknown until a few years ago, many individuals either received an incorrect diagnosis or remained undiagnosed. For example, it is not at all uncommon for a child who was initially diagnosed with ADD or ADHD be re-diagnosed with AS. In addition, some individuals who were originally diagnosed with HFA or PDD-NOS are now being given the AS diagnosis and many individuals have a dual diagnosis of Asperger Syndrome and High Functioning Autism.

For your information, I’ve included below a copy of the DSM IV Description. In addition, I’ve also added a more down-to-earth description that was originally posted to the autism listserv.

adhd flashcards

What age can you begin to notice the child has ADHD or not.

My daughter is 2 and I know it is normal for children this age do not have to concentrate. But she could not really focus on. Nothing more than a few seconds. I took her tumbling to the floor with her children and they are playing games less like acting like frogs and things like that and you can not do anything. But run around in circles all the time. She gets overstimulated. Very simple thing like a stone in the driveway of my mother. She was haunted by how many rocks there. She will not try to color or play with. flashcards because she will not focus for more than a few seconds the text. I wonder if she has ADHD or she is too young to tell.

She is too young to tell, and she sounds like a perfectly normal 2 years with my short attention span is usually not considered the primary level.
