Do you know where I can find information about diets for kids with ADHD?

I have been told by a few different people that my son may have ADHD. Before I consider medication for him I would like to try changing his diet. I have heard that eliminating preservatives, food coloring, and processed foods can help. Does anyone have anymore information on this? Thank you!

I am a 26 year old male, I grew up with severe ADHD. I failed miserably in school due to my lack of interest which lead to lack of concentration or care. I have overly excelled in anything I enjoy and put my mind to, but in getting older, started to realize that there are things I have to put up with in order to succeed in life. You can’t always do what you want all the time. I changed my diet to a low sugar diet, as well as eating more meats, vegetables, and I take a natural omega3 pill every day. The omega3 has been a HUGE help in my overall attentiveness. what these changes have done for me, is to get me into a mode of paying attention to my surroundings, bringing me that habit of paying attention. I keep taking my morning omega3 pill as well as eating healthy, and I feel much more comfortable and successful in life. with NO DRUGS! Before your son can go through his life altering mental changes of his own, you can definitely help him by changing his diet.

Another thing, is that people tend to see an ADHD child and want to keep him AWAY from caffeine. people with ADHD react in the opposite way to these things, whereas caffeine to adhd is a downer and will usually calm you down a focusable state. I drink my morning and afternoon coffee every day.

Anyway, these are just some ways I have dealt with my ADHD, and I feel I have been quite successful with them. Be more visual, less verbal lecturing. If he has homework to do for school, always, and I mean ALWAYS give him a place to get away from it for a few minutes, whether it’s a puzzle book, legos, etc…. Give him that option of “if you feel overwhelmed with your homework, you can have 5 minutes of legos, or puzzles, but you have to get back to your homework”. Guarantee he will eventually finish his homework all the way through without stopping. sounds weird but I promise.

Good luck!!! you’ve got a handful.

my son is 10yrs and has been diagnosis with ADHD?

I need to send my son to a school that is specialized in helping kids with ADHD. He needs to be in a class room of 6 kids only. he’s smart, but he’s not focused enough to finish his work. Does anyone know of a school that is cheap or free that i can send my son too. where in philadelphia, pa

P.S. Thank you inadvance. : )

I have great news for you! You may not have to go through the stress, cost and hassle of changing your son’s school.
In fact your child may even be able to excel in his class above and beyond the other students who have no apparent problems.
George Washington University School of Medicine found that hyperactive children who ate a meal high in protein did equally well, and sometimes better, in school than non-hyperactive kids.
If you were to consider putting a large spoonful of uncooked flax seed into his food every day, either all at once or portioned out, you would see dramatic changes in his behavior. Help him to understand the benefits, put it into his peanut butter sandwiches, mix it into oatmeal, be creative. It could change his life if you change his diet.
A study at Oxford University evaluated the effects of fatty acid supplementation (flax seed as an example) in average intelligence children with significant reading and writing disabilities. The ADHD symptoms in children receiving essential fatty acids significantly improved over the children in the control group receiving a placebo.
Please view this article for great recipes and alternatives to ADHD and ADD medicines. These drugs are addictive amphetamines and do so much more harm than good and they can mess up your child for the rest of his life.
Even back in 1981 Researchers discovered the link between Attention Deficit Disorder ADHD with lower essential fatty acid.
Then further studies in 1983 Studies examining essential fatty acid blood levels in children with behavioral problems confirmed that there was a significant connection between Attention Deficit Disorder and poor nutrition.
Please, take a moment to view the article, try some of the recipes, if after a week or two you do not see any difference, what have you lost? If you do see an improvement you will be opening doors for your son that would otherwise have been shut. Please consider ADHD alternatives. Thank you.

L Glutamine, what can you tell me about it?

What are it’s effects & would it be good to take?

Glutamine is the most abundant naturally occurring, non-essential amino acid in the human body and one of the few amino acids which directly crosses the blood-brain barrier.[1] In the body it is found circulating in the blood as well as stored in the skeletal muscles. It becomes conditionally essential (requiring intake from food or supplements) in states of illness or injury

It is normal in nutritional tablet form to take as a suppository to increase its effects as most of the amino acids are absorbed in the lower stomach. In catabolic states of injury and illness, GLN becomes conditionally-essential (requiring intake from food or supplements). Glutamine has been studied extensively over the past 10–15 years and has been shown to be useful in treatment of serious illnesses, injury, trauma, burns, cancer and its treatment related side-effects as well as in wound healing for postoperative patients.[4][unreliable source?] That is why it is now also classified as a nutraceutical. Glutamine is also marketed as a supplement used for muscle growth in weightlifting, bodybuilding, endurance and other sports.[5]

Glutamine has also been taken to enhance brain function as it fuels two of the brain’s most important neurotransmitters: glutamic acid and gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). It also assists in nitrogen transportation and reduces toxic build up of ammonia in the brain (though is contra-indicated for those with Reye’s Syndrome). Hence, it has been used to aid memory, increase IQ in those with mental retardation, and to support people with schizophrenia and senility.[6]

It has also been used in the treatment of ADHD, anxiety.[7][unreliable source?] and depression.[8][9]

It has also been used in recovery programs to break sugar craving cycles in alcoholics (although is contra-indicated for those with cirrhosis of the liver or kidney disease) and assist diabetics in the management of sugar cravings.[6][10]

It is also used as an anti-inflammatory in the treatment of autoimmune diseases and preserves Glutathione (important for detoxification and immune support) levels in the liver.[10]

Glutamine is contraindicated for those with Reye’s syndrome, cirrhosis of the liver and kidney disease

In recent studies, glutamine-enriched diets have been linked with intestinal effects including maintenance of gut barrier function, and cell differentiation. This may relate to the fact that the intestinal extraction rate of glutamine is higher than that for other amino acids, and is therefore thought to be the most viable option when attempting to alleviate conditions relating to the gastrointestinal tract. These conditions were discovered after comparing plasma concentration within the gut between glutamine-enriched and non glutamine-enriched diets. However, even though glutamine is thought to have “cleansing” properties and effects, it is unknown to what extent glutamine has clinical benefits, due to the varied concentrations of glutamine in varieties of food.[citation needed]

[edit] Aiding recovery after surgery
It is also known that glutamine has various effects in reducing healing time after operations. Hospital-stay times after abdominal surgery can be reduced by providing parenteral nutrition regimes containing high amounts of glutamine to patients. Clinical trials have revealed that patients on supplementation regimes containing glutamine have improved nitrogen balances, generation of cysteinyl-leukotrienes from polymorphonuclear neutrophil granulocytes and improved lymphocyte recovery and intestinal permeability (in postoperative patients) – in comparison to those who had no glutamine within their dietary regime; all without any side-effects.[12]

adhd diet for kids

kids who have adhd question?

is there a special diets for kids who have adhd

It depends on if they are diagnosed and taking medication. Chocolate soy milk, carrots, DIET soda, and foods like pasta, potatoes, things high in carbs and starch to help them maintain their weight. You can also get the flavored shakes like Boost, or dietary supplement shakes to drink with their meals so they get their vitamins and put the normal amount of weight on because with their hyper metabolisms and especially if they take meds, they can lose it or just not gain much. Be sure the soda is sugar free, but not caffeine free. The sugar will just speed them up, while caffeine works like a stimulant for their brains, like ritalin, dexadrine, or adderall does. I wouldn’t give them any kind of coffee though. Speeds up the heart rate too much. It takes 2 cans of soda to equal one cup of coffee.
Hope that helps.

MY SUGGESTIONS AND ADVICE COME FROM DEALING WITH THIS IN MYSELF AND MY CHILDREN FOR THE PAST 30 YEARS, AND THE MAJORITY OF IT IS PERSONAL EXPERIENCE FROM DOCTORS AND OTHER PARENTS/ADULTS WITH THE SAME ILLNESS. I UNDERSTAND THAT THE OTHER COMMENT UNDER MINE IS TRYING TO HELP, BUT THIS IS FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE. For example on the soda. My son’s prescription along with other children’s was stolen during a late night school break in. While we were waiting on the police report, two different doctors suggested Diet Mountain Dew for the stimulant effect until his medicine can be replaced. I hope you do what is best for your child based on experiences and not hearsay.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Food

attention deficit hyperactivity disorder food

Do you think a Gluten free (flour free) diet is healthier for kids?

It is now being reported that 1 in every 80 children worldwide has a diagnosis of Celiac disease and is allergic to wheat flour or any other type of flour found in breads, cereals, cakes, pasta, and in cookies, etc… Autistic children are now being placed on this diet as well, and are drastically recovering from their autism along with oxygen therapy. Do you think that celiac disease and Hyperactivity disorder and attention deficit disorder is the cause of flour or gluten filled foods? Thanks for your answers. If you are a parent, would you consider putting your children on a gluten free diet knowing the worldwide statistics of how many children suffer from epilepsy, chrones disease of the large intestine associated with gluten, and other serious disorders? Why or why not? Thanks for your answers.

I’m unable to say categorically that a gluten free diet is good for everyone, including kids, as it appears there are people who do not have any problems with it (though of course it may just be that we aren’t aware of them). It is very expensive, though, and extremely difficult to police – at school, gluten is in every lunch box, on every plate in the canteen, and in most of the sweets at the tuck shop. So unless you believe that your kids are suffering from some of the symptoms linked to gluten (which are many and varied), it probably isn’t worth doing.

On the other hand, you mention add/adhd – and there are people who say that a gluten free diet helps with this. Autism often responds to a gluten and casein free diet. If you child is suffering from any of these difficulties, it’s definitely worth trying one or other of these diets for a few weeks to see what happens.

Apart from celiac disease (where the tests are still not 100% accurate) there is no test for gluten intolerance. The only way to find out if there is an intolerance is to cut the food for at least 3 weeks to get it out of your system, then challenge by reintroducing it at all 3 meals on a single day to see what happens.

Nutrition Expert and Author Shares Important Diet Information For ADD, ADHD and Weight Loss

This interview is an excerpt from Kevin Gianni’s Fountain of Youth Summit, which can be found at In this excerpt, Phoenix Gilman shares on maintaining serotonin levels in ADD, ADHD and weight loss.

The Fountain of Youth World Summit with Phoenix Gilman, the author of “Diet Failure – The Naked Truth About Weight Loss.”

PHOENIX: This whole thing with ADD, ADHD, if people and the parents and everyone were to come to understand that everything we put in our body obviously affects us physically, but to understand that it also affects us mentally and emotionally, our ability to concentrate, this whole ADD, ADHD, well no wonder most of these kids are bouncing off the walls and can’t focus. One, we have to remember what it was like to be a child, first of all. That to me is so important. That child has so much energy that should not be harnessed with a drug. If parents were to understand that everything that they put in their child’s diet, even though they probably think, I’m sure they think they’re doing right with the low fat milk and the cereals and all that, and the bagels. But all those foods are all very high GI. And the juices and things like that and of course, what kid doesn’t enjoy a Red Bull which is nothing but caffeine and sugar. All those things deplete that brain chemical which, among many things, will lead to more cravings, more binge eating and the so-called ADD, ADHD.

KEVIN: Yeah.

PHOENIX: So, just by understanding what a healthy diet will help tremendously in that child being able to focus and to lose the weight and to be a much healthier child without having to drug them with, you know, sort of Ritalin or Strattera.

KEVIN: Sure. And with kids, if we can move into that just for a little bit…

KEVIN: …I mean, kids like chicken fingers and french fries and ketchup. I mean, how do you get them to, as a parent…

KEVIN: …what does a parent do to get them to eat a healthier diet?

PHOENIX: Well, that’s another excellent question because I talk about it in the book saying, you know, I wrote the book in a dialogue form to one, to give a voice directly to the consumer. And so, the woman says to me, “Well, you can eat like that because you don’t have children. I have children.” And I wanted to put that out there, because I do understand that it is, when you have kids, that’s a whole another thing. I don’t have to worry about anyone, it’s just me. However, there is no better time to help your child than now and he is a child. They might not like it right away, but you can do it slowly. There are things that you can just start to incorporate. I mean, most kids like eggs. You can start instead of giving them breakfast cereal every morning.

KEVIN: A-ha.

PHOENIX: You know, Hot Pockets and Pop-Tarts and things like that. Slowly start to put other healthier things in there. And the dietary supplements as well, Kevin, that are crucial to be able to maintain that brain chemical so you can maintain on this healthy way of living and eating, is even though in our industry we have to … those standard claims, keep away from children. However, if I had a child, knowing how safe it is, I would have them on this product that they could then, because that is the most important thing for me, to maintain that brain chemical so I can get on with my life and do the things that I need to do and staying and eating healthy is the most important thing. So, that would be a good place to start to also then really educate yourself to know what’s healthy, start there and then also get on that supplement.

Because that’s the key. That’s the key. Again, all diets, generally ninety-eight percent of all diets fail unless you understand how to maintain that serotonin. And so that’s really the missing link for any of the diets that are out there.

KEVIN: Right. And you talked about supplements a little bit. What are some of the ingredients in a healthy supplement regimen?

PHOENIX: A-ha. Well, for me, I don’t really get too much into, my key focus, as I said, is to help maintain serotonin.

KEVIN: Yeah.

PHOENIX: I have my own personal thing. I mean, I’m not really big and overloading on supplements even though I’m in the industry. I could be taking twenty or thirty a day based on what the reports say that you need. I try to get as much as I can naturally through my food. I’ll take a good multiple vitamins and minerals ……

KEVIN: A-ha.

PHOENIX: I take an extra E and B. And other than that, the most important one for me, if I only had to take one, it would not be any of those, it would be the product that will elevate my serotonin. And the ones that I recommend in my book, I don’t promote my products in my book even though I spent four years developing supplements to prove these theories, that I had read, the clinical theories, it is about sharing those products and the supplements that people can go in any health food store and get. And by far, the one that is the favorite of mine and has the most wonderful studies to support and what I have used in all my products in the last seven years, is called 5HTP, 5 hydroxytryptophan.

KEVIN: OK. Tryptophans, OK.

PHOENIX: Yeah. And there’s other ones that I list but that is by far the best, and they could be picked up, as they say, it’s great. Because why? It’s safe, it’s affordable, it’s effective, extremely effective and no prescription required.

KEVIN: Wow. That’s interesting. And what does it do chemically?

PHOENIX: Well, actually the 5 is an amino, it’s a natural amino acid, it’s found from the Griffonia seed, a plant out of Africa, South Africa.

KEVIN: A-ha.

PHOENIX: And it is the closest thing to serotonin. It crosses… it’s easily…to cross the blood-brain barrier, which the blood-brain barrier is very, very protective for obvious reasons. From anything that can go in there. But the 5 has what I like to call, the “Key” to quickly get across that barrier. And so, once it gets in across the blood-brain barrier, it transforms into serotonin, thereby elevating this brain chemical.

PHOENIX: And unlike any diet that anyone’s been on in the past, Kevin, I always say, you know, “What do we think about it especially women when we’re on a diet?” We think about all the foods we can’t wait to eat once we get down to that perfect size.

KEVIN: Yeah, it’s true.

PHOENIX: And so, and plus, diets are associated with starvation, deprivation and frustration. And eventually, we end up with our head in the bag for whatever it is we crave. Because, not knowing that what’s driving us to consume those things is this brain chemical depleted. So, unlike any diet that anyone’s been on, whether you’re trying to lose weight, whether you want to help alleviate depression or ADD or help lower your risk for heart disease, cancer, all those things, it is absolutely imperative to be able to maintain it. And to maintain it with a safe effective dietary supplement, Kevin. Once you’re able to maintain that brain chemical, the most amazing thing happens and that is, you will no longer be driven to consume those things. You could have those foods, those trigger items, those comfort foods that you thought you couldn’t live without, you could have them right in front of you and you would no longer want them. Why? Because the brain is now satiated. It’s content. It has no need, no desire to push you for those things. And that is what makes this work long-term. Because what happens when you maintain the serotonin, you subsequently stabilize the insulin. You’re no longer consuming the food and/or beverages that constantly trigger the insulin, making the body store more fat, more fat, leaves depression, more cravings, all the issues that will come to a cycle you now start to stabilize the body. The body starts to burn its own stored fat instead of constantly triggering it, and that is the crucial long-term link.

KEVIN: Wow. It sounds just fantastic to be able to have that power.

PHOENIX: A-ha. It is. Absolutely. That’s why I have so many wonderful testimonials. People say, “Look, for the first time in my life, I’m not driven to consume those.” They just simply lose the desire. And a lot of people say, “Oh, you know, I just found new willpower.” I said, “I don’t care what you want to call it as long as it’s working.”

KEVIN: Yeah.

PHOENIX: What it is is just simply, because it happens within your own head, it really is. It feels like, “Wow, I finally got it.” But it’s nothing more, you know, not to take away, it’s powerful but it’s simply nothing more than you finally understanding how to safely maintain that neurotransmitter.

KEVIN: Wow. You just mentioned testimonials. Why don’t you share with us, you know, a story or two about how, you know, this has worked for the people you worked with.

PHOENIX: There’s two I’d love to share. There’s one, it’s so emotional, though, it was a woman I was doing a show out at Minnesota and I do that really early in the morning and she wrote me and she said, “I heard you one cold wintry morning on WCCO and I almost drove off the road in shock of how you could know what I struggled with all my life with food addiction, carb addiction, never being able to keep the weight off. I felt like such a failure.” Anyway, this woman went on to lose forty-five pounds in about four months, which is a nice, steady pace, not too quick…

KEVIN: Yeah.

PHOENIX: …which I tell my clients, “Look, I will never tell you you’re going to lose thirty pounds in thirty days. I’m not even going to tell you you’re going to lose fifteen pounds in thirty days. This is about coming to understand the long-term solution, and to how far you want to take it, if you add in working out, doing some weight training to help build that lean muscle mass, you could take it probably a little quicker but it is, for me, always about long-term.” But anyway, that woman with a huge…she was a binge eater for her whole life. She was about my age, forty-seven at the time. And she just could not control it. She said, “I felt like such a failure.” Having lost the forty-five pounds, she had kept it off for a year, which is a huge success, because sometimes, like people say, “Oh, I can lose the weight. It’s keeping it off that’s an issue.” So, most of the people that I have now, the book has been out a year, these people have maintained that. And she says now, she says, “You know Phoenix, it is so wonderful to finally be able to go out to dinner with my two boys, enjoy a meal, have a nice piece of pie without wanting to eat the entire pie.”

Adhd Causes Symptoms Information With Treatment

ADHD is caused by changes in brain chemicals called neurotransmitters. These chemicals help send messages between nerve cells in the brain. The neurotransmitter dopamine (pronounced: doe -puh-meen), for example, stimulates the brain’s attention centers. ADHD arises from a combination of various genes, many of which affect dopamine transporters. Dopamine transporter levels that indicate ADHD, but the brain’s ability to produce dopamine itself .The estimated contribution of non genetic factors to the contribution of all cases of ADHD is 20 percent. The few environmental factors implicated fall in the realm of biohazards and include alcohol, tobacco smoke, and lead poisoning. Complications during pregnancy and birth-including premature birth -might also play a role. It has been observed that women who smoke while pregnant are more likely to have children with ADHD. This could be related to the fact than nicotine is known to cause hypoxia (lack of oxygen) in utero , but it could also be that ADHD women have more probabilities to smoke both in general and during pregnancy, being more likely to have children with ADHD due to genetic factors. Children who live in old buildings in which lead still exists in the plumbing or in lead paint that has been painted over may be at risk. Attention disorders are caused by refined sugar or food additives, or that symptoms of ADHD are exacerbated by sugar or food additives.

Does Red # 40 and Yellow # 5 cause hyperactivity in preschoolers?

My 3 1/2 year old son is having problems in preschool due to hyperactivity.
This is his first time in a structured school environment, and is having trouble adjusting.
He is a very bright little boy, knows letter, numbers, shapes..actually helps the teacher teach his peers.

My husband and I have been doing some research, and have read that there may be a link between hyperactivity and the additive Red #40 and Yellow#5.
We are starting to remove items with this additive from his diet. It is amazing all the foods that you think are healthy for a child, which contain these additives!!!
Has anyone Had sucess with such a strategy?
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
We DO NOT want to have him labled or put on medications at this age, as his mind is still developing.
Also, as they can not test for ADHD before the age of 6, we are looking for some real advice.

Thanks Muchly,

Red#40 has been proven to (amoung other things), yellow #5 I don’t believe I have ever read a study that would suggest that

Dietary Supplements For Adhd

dietary supplements for adhd

Is Diet A Main ADHD Cause ? Recent Research On Other Causes

Just imagine if there was one main ADHD cause! That would make life simpler if it were due to genetic factors, or diet, or the environment or conditions during pregnancy. It could have something to do with the structure of the brain and the chemical imbalances involved in the neurotransmitters. Actually, it is a combination of all the above, just to make life more complicated and no main ADHD cause has ever been identified.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has done research on diet and it seems that certain dietary supplements can be a help in lessening the symptoms of ADHD. Omega 3 fatty acids and Vitamin B, plus fewer processed foods all seems to help although the NIH estimate that only about 5% of ADHD children are actually helped by diet and they seem to fall into the food allergy category. One study actually showed that certain dietary supplements were just as effective as Ritalin in easing ADHD symptoms. Diet cannot therefore be a main ADHD cause but it can and does affect a child and can exacerbate or alleviate symptoms. Too much sugar can cause a ‘crash’ and that can lead to temper tantrums or irritability and restlessness.

Recent research shows that the main ADHD cause is more than likely to be an imbalance in the neurotransmitters such as dopamine which are closely connected to the feelings of reward and motivation. This research was carried out at the Brookhaven National Laboratory on Long Island and it is certainly very interesting to note that this could be the reason why ADHD children can never finish a task as they cannot see the long term benefits or rewards. Yet,when they are involved in computer games or video games, they do much better as the rewards are evident and immediate. There are lessons here for both parents and teachers in that they can try to make tasks at home and at school much more appealing and rewarding. It may be as simple as breaking down tasks into smaller units. It could also explain why ADHD kids are more likely to suffer from being overweight and also drug abuse as these are directly linked to reward and motivation.

There are other ways in which a child can be calmed and helped to focus without subjecting him or her to very doubtful amphetamine like drugs which are losing credibility as the major health authorities are worried about the long term effects and the paucity of complementary treatments for ADHD. That is why ADHD homeopathic remedies rarely get enough attention and yet they can help a ADHD child to remain calm and to suffer less from fidgeting. Looking at these remedies and trying to find a reputable supplier can be quite a task. If the facility is FDA approved, the purity of the ingredients are guaranteed and the manufacture is under the supervision of qualified homeopaths, then there is an excellent chance that you can find a product of superior quality.

adhd gluten free diet

My son has Adhd, and has just been diagnosew with Asperger Syndrom, has anyone tried the gluten free diet?

I am reading all about this gluten free diet, and find it odd. Can anyone explain the scientific reasoning behind it?

Because Asperger’s Syndrome is a high functioning form of autism, see sections 12, 21, and 22 – 25, in my website, (I’m an Aspie) at and adopt the recommended dietary changes, as well as finding a treatment program, where he can learn the interpretive, and social skills, which will facilitate his transitition into the mainstream, or as near as possible. I believe gluten has a form of allergic reaction with the lining of the digestive system, and it is also associated with Irritable Bowel Syndrome, but you would do better by using Google, Wikipedia, and your search engine on this, and/or re-posting this question in another section, such as medicine.

Some substances, such as tartrazine (E102), yellow is known very artificial. This year, send the child to the other on the culprits. That lurk in the food of children, including Patel Associates. Is Ritalin Safe for Treating Adhd Children?

Ritalin is one of the most prevalent drugs used to treat Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). It is prescribed to thousands of children under the age of 18 every year. While Ritalin has been shown to help in severe cases of ADHD, it may not be beneficial in mild cases as its side effects may be worse than the symptoms of ADHD. Ritalin has varying side effects on children, some of which can be potentially harmful.

Ritalin causes stunted growth in children. A new study conducted by the Child Development Center of the University of California, Irvine found that children who took Ritalin for three years were about an inch shorter and weighed 4.4 pounds less than other children in their age group. It is not known if these children ever regain their normal height. The long-term neurological effects of Ritalin remain unknown.

Another possible problem with treating ADHD children with Ritalin is the potential for addiction and abuse. Ritalin is a stimulant and is categorized as an amphetamine. All amphetamines carry with them a likely risk of addiction. A study found that children who took Ritalin for more than 3 years have a greater risk of substance abuse and committing crime.

Many adolescents and young adults snort Ritalin in a way similar to snorting cocaine. They think that Ritalin is a cheaper and safer alternative to cocaine. However, Ritalin has dangerous side effects whether taken orally or inhaled. This could be a short leap from using prescription amphetamines such as Ritalin to using illegal street amphetamines in the future.

Other side effects of Ritalin include headaches, stomach upsets, reduced appetite, depression, irritability, anxiety, increased blood pressure, sleep difficulties and nervousness. When the side effects of taking Ritalin are severe, they can be worse than ADHD symptoms, making them an ineffective treatment.

Instead of treating mild to moderate cases of ADHD with drugs such as Ritalin and Adderall, some believe that dietary changes can help control ADHD symptoms naturally. Many processed foods contain dyes, addictives, preservatives and artificial flavoring that can cause allergic reactions in people with ADHD. Avoid excessive intake of sugar as it can cause hyperactivity. Consume fresh and wholesome foods. Herbal remedies may also be helpful to treat ADHD without the harmful side effects or possibility of addiction or abuse. Behavioral therapies have more positive and lasting benefits.

With so many side effects of Ritalin and its long-term effects remain unknown, it is best to consider alternative treatments for ADHD. Discuss all treatment options with your doctor carefully to ensure that Ritalin is only the last line of treatment for ADHD.

About the Author

The long term side effects of Ritalin are still unknown and its benefits have been called into question many times. Besides drug medications, there are alternative treatments for ADHD that are safer and yet effective. Check out the all natural and drug free treatments for ADHD at

ADHD can it be controlled with watching a childs diet?

My son has been on medicine for about 4 years now. different kinds, still can’t find one that works the best. Things are seriously getting worse. My mother suggested I take him off meds and watch what he eats. He likes his candy and sweets I will tell you that. So i am sure that has a lot to do with it. I have talked to other parents that have done the same thing. What kind of foods should you stay away from ?

There have actually been a lot of studies that have shown that Fish Oil can help with ADD/ADHD. It seems too simple, and that may be one reason it wasn’t really looked at closely for this, but I wasn’t surprised it would help when I thought about it. The EPA and DHA in Fish Oil help with all sorts of things including heart health, skin health, and brain health. There was a good article at that covers some of this as well.
Give it a try… it’s economical, safe, and easy. Just make sure that the company you get it from uses Molecular Distillation because that’s currently the only safe way to remove any trace contaminants of any heavy metals. Of course, if you aren’t sure about the dosage or the benefits, you may want to consult with a holistic doctor, as they may have other additional options available to them.

There are also a lot of people who have found some relief from limiting sugar, artificial colors/flavorings, and going with less (or no) processed food to take away those possible causes as well. From research I’ve done, Fish Oil tends to help more, but both work even better together. Good luck and I hope I helped!

ADHD And Sugar – Can It Really Affect Your Child’s Behavior?

Sugar and salt are the great health enemies so it is no surprise that ADHD and sugar is a hot topic right now. Food manufacturers have a lot to gain by advertising their so called healthy snack for kids and their wacky cereals. Recent experiments show that giving ADHD kids sweet things did not really make a difference to their behavior. The same cannot be said for food colourings and additives though. These are now recognised as the real enemy, so to speak, and the USA is a bit behind Europe on this one. The European Parliament now wants a warning box or label on all foods that are using these colourings to the effect that they can cause behavior disorders.

Some experts have claimed that sugar is addictive and you become dependent on it. It is true that we suffer from withdrawal symptoms if we are denied our sugary snack so you can imagine how children react. Try a few spoonfuls of sugar on an empty stomach to experience a sugar high! Sugar and ADHD are related in a certain sense when we consider that if we feed a kid a nice sugary cereal for breakfast pus a few doughnuts, he may well have a hyperactive high caused by the adrenaline rush caused by the rapid increase in the glucose levels. When the effect wears off, there is a mood swing which may lead to lack of focus and lethargy and drowsiness. Much better to have some carbohydrates plus some protein such as eggs, soya or cheese for breakfast.

ADHD and sugar may not be so closely related but avoiding excess sugar and especially food colourings, remembering that they very often come in the same packet, is the most sensible thing we can do to avoid any exacerbation of ADHD symptoms such as hyperactivity, distractability and lack of concentration. In the case of doubt, it is better to avoid an ADHD and sugar combination.

Diet and nutrition are no cure for ADHD but reducing sugar, salt and processed foods are definitely the way to go as they are healthy choices to make. There is a more pressing choice to make and that is how you are going to manage your child’s behavior. Cutting down on ADHD sugar is not going to solve that problem. Following an ADHD behavior therapy course is going to help you though and there are effective courses which have helped parents to defeat verbal abuse and violence in the home. The second problem is related to medication and there are countless stories of children and teenagers who have been kept in a comatose state for many years on Ritalin. If you want to avoid all that, opt for a homeopathic remedy for ADHD as the ingredients are totally natural and help the body and mind to work in perfect balance. There are no side effects and it is a much cheaper option.

Food Allergies In Children With ADHD

Today, one of the major diseases that children and youth suffer from is the disease called Attention Deficit Disorder or ADD. Though even adults can suffer from this disease, it mainly affects children and the youth. Though ADD has received a great amount of focus and attention since the past several years, there is a large section of the people who are unaware of this disease and are not aware of the exact nature of this disease.

Attention deficit disorder coupled with food allergy is a unique problem faced by children. This has become one of the most controversial and a hot topic for debate in the field of medicine. Food sensitivities and ADHD is a very uncommon mechanism.

ADHD and its association with Food Allergy:
Children suffering from ADHD can develop food allergy with respect to different foodstuffs. The allergies can be reflected through various ways and children can develop dark circles under the eyes, glazed eyes, red ear lobes. Children show uncanny swings in their behavior. For one moment they can be calm and the next moment they can be extremely wild and hyperactive. A very surprising fact is that children suffering from this disease generally demand that food to which they are allergic to and which can affect them adversely.

How to recognize a child suffering from ADHD and food allergy:

Children suffering from ADHD and food allergy show adverse response to food which can be the main cause for the children to be suffering from ADHD.

Children suffering from ADHD show the following signs of food allergy:
a) Mood Swings and tantrums
b) Sleep disturbances
c) Asthma
d) Hyperactivity

Research shows that children suffering from food allergy can also suffer from problems like migraine, eczema, sleep disturbances, headaches etc.

Remedial Measures:
According to experts medicines seldom cure such cases. They simply help in controlling the symptoms to some extent. Even psychologists cannot do much than just helping the child and his family to live with the disease. Medicines would help the child in going through the day but not cure it completely. However many psychologists have developed several tests and ways to successfully lessen the effect of the disease.

According to experts, the percentage of children suffering from ADHD and food allergy ranges from 60% to 75% approximately. It is more important to treat food allergies than using medication. There are a several ways in which food allergies can be cured. One of the ways is diet elimination. Thus it can be believed that food allergies aggravate ADHD though it may not be the reason to cause ADHD. Thus treating food allergies is vital for treating ADHD.

im bipolar and have adhd what kind of foods cant i eat?

i was wondering if there is any foods or drinks that im not supposed to eat or drink because im bipolar and have adhd . so i need to know what foods or drinks besides caffien can i or cant i eat or drink

There is no scientific evidence to suggest that you should avoid certain food or drinks with bipolar disorder or ADHD. People will suggest that you avoid artificial colourings and flavourings, particularly the E100 numbers which you’ll see on the back of most brightly coloured or strongy flavoured foods, and certainly as a general matter of health everyone should be avoiding these. A very small proportion of children with ADHD seem to have a response to cutting these out of the diet in terms of their symptoms improving, but again there is little scientific evidence to back this up.

Just eat a normal, healthy diet, and try to get plenty of omega 3 because it reportedly helps with all mental health problems.

Organic is a good goal for everyone but in your case, instead of worrying so much about that, try the priority of steering clear of the boxes, cans, and packaged food, and shop more around the perimeter of the store. Fresh dairy, fresh produce, fresh meat and seafood! Single fresh ingredients and a collection of herbs and spices to flavor your food without artificial ingredients.

Notable exceptions in the aisles are canned broth, dried beans, rice, pasta, single ingredient flours, canned tomatoes, and frozen vegetables, rolled oats, maple syrup, raw sugar, local honey, corn chips, etc. These all have pretty simple list of ingredients, and they are not complicated or overly processed. A good rule is that the ingredient list should sound like a recipe, not a chemistry inventory.

Cooking with fresh food doesn’t have to make cooking harder! I buy a great deal of very versatile single ingredients that can be turned into umpteen simple healthy dishes. But you do have to shop smarter, read labels, and have a basic skill set in the kitchen.

Of course organic is great wherever you can. If you can’t get all organic, a great compromise is to pay attention to whether or not the eaten portion of the food is sprayed with chemicals…so those things with peels and skins like bananas and citrus are going to be better to let it slide than berries and lettuce. I know this doesn’t address fertilizers which usually permeate food from the root system. Also remember if you are choosing foods like prepared cookies, it doesn’t make much difference whether they are organic or not, they are both junk food, so you may as well enjoy the Oreos over Annie’s or Newman’s Own…which may be great but ain’t an Oreo.

You may have to shop more often but get less at a time…because without preservatives, the best food is not always shelf stable.

And you might be interested in gardening. In addition to giving you a very solid idea where your food is coming from, it will be something that you can tend as a family, and maybe use as an activity to help with your daughter’s social skills, attention span, and ability to set goals for a task, such as watering a whole row without distraction. Be aware though…organic gardening is quite different from depending on chemicals, and you don’t just eliminate them and expect your garden to thrive. You have to take measures to work with your environment, and bring natural nutrients to your plants. Organic gardeners rely on things like poop and spiders, collecting rainwater, composting, etc. It isn’t hard but you do have to commit to it.

Hope these help you!

Oh, another thing you might try for your daughter’s sake is changing some of your cleaning products. If you can use more “green” stuff, then your daughter will be taking in less toxins in the home through the air and skin. Vinegar, baking soda, lemon juice, olive oil…can clean and protect a lot of things in your home. Using those things whenever it is appropriate will reduce your use of more harsh chemicals.

Commonly Asked Questions relating to Dyslexia

FAQs about Adult Dyslexia: For people living with learning disabilities even the tiniest task can regularly appear insurmountable. Try and imagine trying to go into amall to buy the things you must make a recipe. If you have adult dyslexia then even making that list can seem not possible. Far too often children with dyslexia are simply passed through faculty until they graduate, or at least that was what happened in the past. Teachers would often find the kids troublesome and would simply put them in a remedial class. Those children grew up and still had the same learning disability. Dyslexia is a very common learning incapacity and one that’s not solely reserved just for kids. Adults all across the world suffer from this condition and many don’t get the help that they need . This article is going to cover plenty of the questions that adult dyslexia diagnosis brings up. If you know of someone that is a victim of this disability, perhaps you can help them get the help they need .

Are there any crucial causes to adult dyslexia? There are infrequently underlying causes to adult dyslexia but it is hard to establish, infrequently, whether the cause is really underlying or if it is simply overlapping or contributory. Auditory processing disorder is one such case where people hear things in reverse which in turn can end up in them writing it down or processing it wrong. An additional condition might be Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, or ADHD, where it is hard for the person to concentrate on one thing long enough for the information to be processed. There are even conditions,eg scotopic sensitiveness syndrome, or Irlen syndrome, where a person is sensitive to certain light wavelengths. This sensitiveness makes visually processing troublesome for the person.

What are some related conditions to adult dyslexia? Not every adult that’s diagnosed with dyslexia will have the same co-conditions. Although some of the conditions that frequently do occur with dyslexia are : dysgraphia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, Specific Language Impairment or cluttering. Each of these conditions involves some type of capability the adult dyslexic is having issues with. Dyspraxia is a condition in which there’s an actual neurological condition that makes balance hard when dealing with routine tasks. The others listed are different issues that will involve a person seeing a process or word mix obviously in their mind but not having the capability to record or jot it down properly. Dysgraphia sometimes happens with writing and typing whereas dyscalculia is a problem that involves mathematics. In all of the related conditions the end effect is still the same : the person is not in a position to express, through writing or speech, the correct order of the words or numbers.

Who are some early pioneers in discovering and researching adult dyslexia and dyslexia overall? There have been many important early analysts, professors and scientists that have studied dyslexia. Oswald Berkhan identified the condition back in 1881 but the disorder was not officially recognized as dyslexia until Rudolf Berlin did so in 1887. For many years dyslexia was recognized as congenital word blindness because there had been such a fixation on individuals who could not understand written material. It was thought that the brain simply processed the info wrong and so when writing or reciting the information back, many words were omitted or just switched around. In some instances of adult dyslexia that’s the case. Since those early pioneers lots of other researchers have studied this disorder and discovered that it is more than just phonetics or alphabets that will have dyslexics confused. Some,eg Galaburda and Kemper in 1979, discovered that the brains of dyslexics basically have anatomical differences. This helped show everyone that it wasn’t simply poor learning skills. It proved that there are real physical differences that lead someone to being dyslexic.

Is adult dyslexia a genetic condition? Adult dyslexia does have some genetic markers that will be identified. But in 2007 a review was revealed that stated that there were no processes that were influenced by these genes. Unfortunately there’s simply not enough data to precisely say whether or not dyslexia, in adults or children, is basically a genetic condition that may be inherited. It may turn out to be that there’s just something that goes tits up during conception when the genetic material is created that makes dyslexia possible.

Where To Get Fast Iron Vitamin Supplement Ideas

We all know that there are many things that are important. Health is of course important. That is why, minerals are crucial stuff for every vital organ in our body.

Where do we get them?

We usually get them from the food we ingest but sometimes not truly enough, so we need to supplement them with good vitamins.

An iron vitamin supplement is one of the bodies basic vitamins and very important, even more so in ladies. It is obtainable from plants, walnuts, grains, animal products, red meat, liver and eggs. The human body takes in iron from the last four foodstuffs most easily.

Some warning bells that may occurred if you are low on iron and the requirement of having an iron vitamin supplement on your kitchen closet are as follows

#1 Keep on getting dizzy spells.

#2 Seeing some head rushes or “white dots” in your vision when you stand up quickly.

#3 Very week and faint.

#4 More headaches more then usual.

The above are only some of the warning signs and you should always see your physican if you are having these problems.

Having iron for these people

#1 For moms-to be

Expectant women use iron at a much faster rate and may need iron vitamin supplements. The grounds for this is that iron is a section of the hemoglobin of the erythrocytes that provide oxygen to all cells in the body. During the pregnancy the quantity of the erythrocytes is higher because of the increased want of oxygen and respectively the need of iron increases.

Is iron really needed during this period

The best is when most females lots of iron is during their monthly menstration. But it is not so bad, because this loss is compensated by the process called resorption.

Babies and kids

Babies and kids are growing fast and there is increase in their blood volume that is why they need a lot of iron and possibly an iron vitamin supplement in their daily intake. They can be supplied with enough iron if they eat a wide variety of fruits, grains and meats.

Do vegetarians need iron?

Being a vegetarian is simply removing all meat sources from daily diets. Iron can be add on through a range of leafy vegetables and soy stuffs but it is quite common for vegetarians to have iron deficiencies. It is good practice for very strict vegetarians to visit your doctor regularly to have your iron levels checked.

The group that are risking of low iron levels are those called heavy dieters. Certain diets require that you reduce food groups out of your diet plans. If you are not vigilant and stay on these diets for a extensive phase of time then you may be at risking of iron deficiency. A simple iron vitamin supplement can counter this effect and keep your iron levels up.

Without a proper understanding how the importance of iron vitamin supplements have an adverse impact to the physique, there will not be much beautiful hair or lifestyle to live for.

Make use of these effective facts together with an thorough understanding of vitamin health food is important so that you enjoy your life once again.

Why Feed All People Milk?

The milk nowadays is not good for anyone! They process it and homogenize someway. It will turn your kids into giants and fat people! Thats why there are tons of overweight, very tall, big feet, big hands, and other things; that our young children have in the U.S. Only thing milk should be used for is building muscle and thats it! It shouldn’t be used by the boatloads to feed hundreds of thousands of schools and people! You can get all your necessary vitamins by something else, and not just by milk, milk, milk! Even when building muscle; it should be used discreetly, because it can make you bulky! Bulk doesn’t add strength; are we getting anywhere? Whey protein should be used with a little milk just for the right taste, thats it! I could of lived off of water and apple juice in middle school, because I knew of many students, who would refuse to drink the milk at all in schools, for one reason or another! But I drank milk in middle school, and now I have a 14 size shoe.

I think fast food is more to blame than milk for obesity.

adhd organic diet

My son has ADHD and im switching our family to an all organic (natural) diet, any brand names kids would like?

I mostly shop at whole foods (memphis) any good name brands for kids that would taste like somewhat what their use to i’m mostly interested in cereal, pancakes mix, syrup, bread, frozen items (pizza, waffles etc). I really want them to enjoy the all natural diet, and not scare them off from the organic. any other tips you have regarding switching over to an organic (natural) i would really appreciate it!

The whole point of eating natural foods for treating ADHD is to cut out all processed foods, especially sugar and artificial flavours and preservatives.

Organic cereals, pancakes mix, syrup, bread, pizza, waffles etc…..are still going to be packed full of sugar, even though it is organic sugar.

And even though these things are organic, they are still heavily processed.

Eating organic and biodynamic is fantastic. I am sure the chemical pesticide traces left on non-organic produce causes a lot of health issues.

But it is best to stick with organic fresh fruit and fresh vegetables. Frozen is ok but tinned is a no-no.

This does not have to be boring, as you can make all sorts of yummy things.

Get your kids onto Green Smoothies:

Get yourself a dehydrator (excalibur is a good brand) and make organic fruit leathers – you basically purée fruit and dehydrate it and you finish with healthy fruit leathers that most kids love to snack on.

Alissa Cohen has some amazing raw vegan desserts and cakes.

They are sugar-free, flour-free etc…

A Champion juicer (and other juicers) can make fruit ice -“creams”:

This is a lovely healthy treat for children using organic fruit.

The Shocking Gluten-ADHD Link – Can Celiac Disease Cause ADHD?

If you’re wondering if wheat gluten & ADHD might be related to each other, then you are smart. Celiac disease which is an allergic reaction to wheat gluten is on the rise. In this article, you’ll learn more about the connection between Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and wheat gluten and what to do about it.

When a child is allergic to gluten (wheat protein), the lining of the small intestine gets compromised, which results in poor digestion and malabsorption of nutrients. This leads to gastrointestinal problems, but is also responsible for other issues related to malnourishment: poor growth and developmental delays which can lead to problems with learning and attention.Obviously, removing gluten from the diet is the first step in reversing the damage.

<b>Anecdotal Evidence for the ADHD-Gluten Diet Link</b>

<li>Most kids who have disorders like ADHD have some form of IBS (inflammatory bowel syndrome). IBS is a classic symptom of celiac disease.
<li>Kids who have celiac disease often have a neurologic dysfunction, which is the hallmark of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. ADHD is a developmental disorder that seems to start in the brain, but may actually have its origins in the gut. If your child cannot get the nutrients that he needs from food, he is literally starving himself. We all know that the stomach feeds the brain.
<li>A two-week study of 31 children who were put on a gluten-free diet showed marked behavioral improvements in over half the kids.

<b>Gluten-ADHD Diet Recommendations</b>

<li>Since gluten is a protein that is found in wheat, barley and rye, eliminate these products from your child’s diet. Replace them with gluten-free products, but be sure to read the labels and make sure that there are no chemicals or preservatives. If your child is resistant to dietary changes, make them slowly over time.
<li>Eliminate casein from the diet (milk products). Many children who have the gluten-ADHD link are also allergic to milk protein.
<li>Purchase a Gluten-free cookbook and learn how to make healthy, delicious baked goods.
<li>Give your child a natural remedy designed to treat ADHD, so that his brain can heal more quickly from the damage done by celiac disease.

Although following the recommendations for a ADHD gluten diet is important for kids with celiac disease, it’s not enough to just remove gluten from the diet. This is because it takes up to 12 months of following a gluten-free diet for ADHD symptoms to resolve. Additionally, since an adverse reaction to gluten has caused changes in your child’s brain and nervous system, it is essential to reverse the damage with a natural supplement designed specifically to suppress the symptoms of ADHD, while restoring proper brain function.

Since all supplements are not created equal, look for one that contains proven ingredients like Arsen Iod, Hyoscyamus and Verta Alb. Make sure the formulation has been approved by the FDA and that the company stands behind their product with a no-questions-asked guarantee. Such a guarantee proves that the company has done their research and is confident that their product works.  This is the best and safest way to boost the effectiveness of a no gluten ADHD diet and give your child the nutrients he needs to calm his brain, focus, pay attention and get back on track.

By respecting the ADHD gluten diet link, eliminating gluten and casein from the diet and giving your child a natural remedy to relieve symptoms and restore brain function, your child will come into his own and fulfill his unique potential. Don’t feel bad that you didn’t learn of this connection earlier: just follow the steps right now. You’ll be surprised at how fast your child recovers. After all, kids are much more resilient than we think.

I’ve heard of the feingold diet for ASD, ADHD, ADD..etc Does it really work ?

I’ve heard people telling me about this special diet for them, as you all would know I’m the mother of a 5 year old boy. He was diagnosed with ASD about a little over a month ago. I’ve been learning a lot but I’m kind of hesitant about this I don’t know a parent that can tell me for sure that they have used it and it has worked. Thank You in Advanced for all your comments I really need a lot of info. Any books or cookbooks that you could recommend?

Wow, Feingold, haven’t heard that in years.

I would say no to Controlling it (no diet will control ADHD), but yes to it being the right diet to put him on. I was diagnosed with ADHD in 1984, and my mother put me on the diet. As far as I remember, it was about all natural foods and not alot of substitutes.

Keep this in mind though. Sugar calmed me down as a kid. It was like a relaxer to me. I know that is uncommon, but a cup of juice and a few cookies (they were always Pepperidge farm) put me at ease and made me NOT harass my sisters.

One last thing. ADD and ADHD (dont know what ASD is) is Not a disease. It is NOT needed to be controlled with medication. ADD is the evolution of the human brain. The ability to process many different inputs at once. Of course a 6 year old is going to have trouble with this. Can a 6 year old bench press 220 lbs? No, the body isn’t capable of that yet. Stimulation is to the brain what physical exercise is to the body. Let his brain develop. In time he will use those skills to multitask and take on several projects at once. Medicating a 7 year old to calm down and focus on one subject is like putting a restrictor on a Ferrari and limiting it to 55 mph.

Alternative Solutions for Kids with ADHD

Alternative Treatments for ADHD has been studied extensively and the results are quite impressive. One alternative treatment you can look into are food allergies which rate high on the list because of the association ADHD. Long term exposure to the same products over and over in the diet can cause negative reactions. There are many wheat allergies; it is in cereal, breaded coatings for children’s fish sticks and chicken nuggets and a myriad of other products. When the intestine is exposed to these proteins (wheat, rye, oats and barley) it can become damaged causing absorption and digestion problems.

If a child is not receiving vital nutrients they will not be able to concentrate or learn and have attention problems; does this sound like ADHD? Of course not all children have these food sensitivities, but it has been on the rise along with peanuts and dairy. You can be tested for gluten intolerance but since blood tests sometimes have a false negative the best way to test for this is a stool sample.

A simple test that you can do at home would be to omit gluten products from the diet. Gluten which is a protein in wheat, rye, oats and barley causes the damage, so if you eliminate those products you would probably see the change in your child within days.

Other alternative solutions for kids with ADHD associated with diet options would be the elimination of chemical additives like dyes and artificial sweeteners, sugar, nitrates in lunch meats, and dairy. The best way to see if any food is causing problems with ADHD is to eliminate the major foods that cause allergies for three months then, slowly add them back one at a time to see if there’s a reaction or behavioral issue.

There are nutritional supplements like Omega-3’s, GABA and homeopathic drops that can be added to juice, water or milk which can help balance the child’s system and have been shown to help, reverse or completely stop ADHD symptoms!

What’s up with the gluten-free diet and ADHD?

My son and I both just recently discovered we suffer from gluten intolerance and researching has brought to my attention that a diet free of gluten may also benefit my daughter with severe ADHD. How could gluten negatively effect her?

Gluten intolerance seems to be genetic, as it runs in families. Given that you already know 2 relatives by blood of your daughter (you and your son) suffer from this problem, it’s not unlikely that she also has it, though not necessarily in the same form.

Many of the symptoms of gluten intolerance which are less well known relate to emotional/behavioral and/or mental disturbance. The theory is that people who are gluten intolerant do not digest gluten completely.

Normally, gluten is digested in a two-stage process. The first stage produces an opioid peptide called gluteomorphin or gliadomorphin. It has a structure and effect similar to opium, and due to leaky gut syndrome, which is often (possibly always) present in the gluten intolerant, this substance can leak into the bloodstream and cause any of a huge number of different possible effects.

Leaky gut was controversial until last June or July, when researchers in Maryland (I think) found the mechanism behind it. I don’t have the reference to hand, but this is a breakthrough, because much of conventional medicine was simply denying the possibility – and also denying that gluten could have any effect beyond celiac disease, even though it’s already known that celiac is associated with other disorders, including celiac ataxia (the shakes, similar to Parkinson’s Disease).

As you are obviously having to cope with a gluten free diet for the two of you, this should not be as difficult for you to try with your daughter as for other mums. And in general, many families find that it’s a lot easier for everyone to go gluten free than just some of the family, so as to avoid issues like cross-contamination.

adhd cutting

my friends cutting themselves= what should i do?!?

okay my friend (my BEST friend ive know since 1st grade) just had some testest and now we know she has ADHD and Social Axiety. yeah oh and shes 14. anyway she is taking some medicaion but that has some “side affects.” there was one day where she wouldnt go home (like after school) but she was REALLY dizzy and she was still walking around the neighborhood crying and like not even walking straight. anyways thats over but latly shes been cutting herself. now yeah shes stupid. SHE blams it on the medicine which i think i half the reason. & now, her boyfriend (who is also my friend so i can talk 2 him) is ignoring her cuz she supposably promissed she wouldnt cut herself again, then the next day she had cuts on her cuz she said her and our friend hailey were just “messing around.” they are SO stupid and i dont know what to do. i cant really do anything really cuz its their lives even though i do care about them but they wouldnt listen to me.
what should i do? anything at all? im scared.

if i were in ur position id be really scared too. my friends are very important to me. i would never want them to do anything to hurt themselves. if i were u, i would tell her that. tell her that she is a good person and that nothing is wrong with her. tell her that she doesnt deserve wat she is doing to herself. i did that before when my friend was in a REALLY bad mood. she was happy the next day.
