Attention deficit disorder VS bipolar?

Im age 15 years old and was diagnosed with a type of inatentive ADHD about a year ago. I'm in a low dose of concerta to help me focus in school. This will allow some But not a whole lot. About six months ago, my therapist put me on. Paxil for anxiety and depression. My mother is worried about certain behaviors. Her manic and took notice of me. I see a psychiatrist to ask about a history of bipolar in the family. My grandfather and my father had it badly, it was never diagnosed. But it is very possible that he did it. She said the people there. Trends and a history of bipolar families. … Anti-depressants can cause symptems bipolar action. I shut her up Takin anti depressants. Of which is supposed to help. But ive done some research on bipolar. Disease and symptems feeling for me. Most of them are actually very similar to what was used. dagnose that I have ADHD. Can anyone tell me how I can get to know the difference. … I might be bipolar and not vice versa, ADHD or visa? Help!

It is possible for individuals with both disorders. It is also possible for the symptoms. B / pd / O seems to be a lot more. Such as ADHD than bipolar. Often times the VA psych. Are diagnosed with less severe disease. (ADHD) is the first in order to see if I can get over the initial course of treatment for There are two extremes, very often people with bipolar disorder who are adverse to. psychostimulants (eg, Concerta), as well as patients. Most SSRI's / DS (such as Prozac. And Paxil) are not recognized by the people as well. b / PD / O, but the "normal" DS / (such as Wellbutrin) may be accepted as well. Research is showing that. B / pd / O does not work in the family's pain. The two terminals are more severe than that in ADHD children. To make matters worse, there is a malfunction in a so-called "Cyclothymia" sort of "two poles. – Lite "with fewer and less severe symptoms. In the two extremes. One of the features of that. b / pd / O with ADHD who do not have to ride a bike is depressed. Depression is not a feature of ADHD. The best suggestion – let your mind you diagnose Maryland. Do not worry too much about your type of abnormality. The use of drugs that are prescribed for you and your symptoms will begin to stabilize.

People say that the initial euphoria of confidence in a good mood and raise many Energy is what will help make social I found the first part of the experience of Ritalin worse. Ritalin my (and I only started in 5mg twice a day) after I adjusted and can be managed better. More each day I can be. 10mg – 20mg at a time whenever I need it as a kind of release soon. (Up to 60mg / day) and social anxiety, I will start. Best of Ritalin kinda slow when we were in situations of social competition, and I do not think I can out of ideas and that's why I take. Ritalin's me, but my mind calm down when you are overactive in social situations and help me to get the idea. Out or had a discussion a few times. As time went on I got used to. adhd prevalence

Is ADHD a real disease, or is it just nature’s way of saying our modern life is unnatural and unhealthy?

Lately I have been wondering how suddenly half the population of the industrialized world suddenly developed ADD/ADHD. My guess is that humans go a little batty when forced to sit in a chair all day staring at a glowing screen (says the guy typing at a computer, but whatever). I really don’t know anything about this though so it’s just wild speculation. Are there any respectable journal articles that have explored the suddenness of this disorder’s increased prevalence?
I should specify Adult ADHD, thanks.

ADD/ADHD are quite real but overdiagnosed . Some people believe that Asperger Syndrome also is not real . Of course these people have never raised a child with the condition as I have .

adhd depression adults

adhd depression adults

Is It ADHD or Depression?

Depression can strike anytime, anyplace, and affects people of all ages, races, and socioeconomic levels. On the other hand ADHD always starts before the age of 7 but will continue into adulthood over 50 percent of the time. It is currently estimated that about 20 million Americans currently are struggling with the symptoms of depression with around 8 million suffering from ADHD.

Tying the two together

Adults with attention deficit disorder are three times more likely to suffer from major depression, and more than seven times more likely to suffer from dysthymia, or chronic low level depression.

Researchers believe the close association between ADHD and depression is caused by similar imbalances of brain chemical messengers using the same neurobiological systems. Put simply the areas of the brain that control mood also control attention, with inattention being the primary symptom of ADHD. Another less scientific theory holds that the relationship between ADHD and depression may be a byproduct of personal and interpersonal difficulties commonly experienced by both ADHD children and adults.

Unraveling more of the mystery

Is it ADHD, depression, ADHD induced depression, or depression coexisting with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder? These are certainly dizzying  questions to answer, and most likely will require the help of a super duper psychological detective familiar with both conditions to find answers.

Why? Well both ADHD and depression are marked by the inability to pay attention, moodiness, forgetfulness, lack of motivation, and feelings of despair and hopelessness. Adding to the quandary is the fact that many of the medications which have been so successful over the years at controlling ADHD, such as Ritalin, may also increase the likelihood of depression.

While the similarities are numerous these are not identical conditions and there are a number of noteworthy differences. These most notable of these differences is that dark episodes of depression tend to last for long periods of time, whereas those suffering with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder are more likely to experience short term depression as a result of a specific set on negative or unforeseen circumstances.

Additionally,  true depression is an energy zapping event often leaving those affected severely fatigued, making it difficult to accomplish even the simplest of tasks. On the other hand those with ADHD may be full of energy, but have a great deal of trouble focusing that energy in the right direction.

What does all this mean?

While research has given us some clues, the fact of the matter is that no one really knows why those with ADHD have a tendency to be moody, irritable, depressed, and choose to see the glass half empty most of the time. The best guess scenario is that this depressive downer attitude is the result of a combination of neurotransmitter imbalances in the brain combined with an individual’s emotional response to repeated failure, frustration, and disappointments in their daily lives.

What else? For those struggling with ADHD finding an effective treatment option is an important first step. The most common form of treatment currently are prescription stimulants such as Ritalin, Adderall and Vyvanse. While effective, all stimulant medications come with a number of serious label warnings. The risk of side effects, or perhaps lack of success with stimulants, has prompted many to investigate other options. A couple examples of this are behavior modification therapy and/or natural remedies. Natural remedies for ADHD are a side effect free way to address such problematic symptoms as inattention, distractibility, impulsivity, erratic behavior and hyperactivity and can be used both as a standalone treatment or as a compliment to other nonprescription alternatives.

Will a recent diagnosis of Adult ADHD effect my Army Career?

I have recently been diagnosed as having the adult form of ADHD, could this effect my career?
I have always had bouts of “depression” but decided not to tell the Army when I joined as I wanted a life for myself. Other than a few issues I have done well but behind closed doors have struggled everyday with my concentration, memory, temper, self confidence, patience & have had turbulent relationships ,mainly due to my “mood swings”. I was recently made aware by my boyfriend that I had signs of “Adult ADHD” & to my surprise I ticked ever box. I was diagnosed privately but can’t afford to keep up the medication & counselling & wondered if I told the Army’s medical services would it effect my career? I was recently selected to instruct recruits & am not sure if this is allowed? Can anyone help me with this?

First of all, congratulations for making the discovery. It’s always important to know one’s strengths and weaknesses, and learning about ADHD will help you do that — plus treatment can help you shore up what you thought were personal weaknesses but were in fact symptoms. 😉

My understanding is that people with diagnosed ADHD can join the military but they must be off all medication for a year before doing so.

I don’t think there are any hard and fast rules about treatment after you are already in. I’ve tried to research this topic before, and what I’ve determined is that your chances of getting enlightened ADHD treatment depends not only on the branch of the military you are in but the base at which you are assigned. It’s sort of the luck of the draw.

I met an Army psychiatrist recently who was one of the most knowledgeable and compassionate specialists in this area that I’ve ever met. She fully understood how ADHD symptoms can interfere with a soldier’s life on the job and off and how important it is to receive good treatment strategies. Overall, it seems Army does try to address these issues knowledgeably. But that said, “your mileage may vary.”

On the one hand, getting your ADHD symptoms under control could greatly enhance your career. You will be able to perform at the level that your innate talents and intelligence allow instead of possibly being held back by problematic ADHD symptoms (such as mood and temper and the other challenges you mention). Adults with ADHD commonly have problems on the job, and often find they hit a “ceiling” when it comes to promotions — and sometimes even keeping a job.

On the other hand, you don’t want to give higher-ups an excuse to marginalize you; unfortunately, not everyone understands the facts about ADHD, and some might make ignorant judgments. So, it’s wise to proceed with caution, I think.

Is there some discreet way that you can learn about the ADHD assessment and treatment opportunities available to you?

First, though, I would recommend that you educate yourself as well as you can on the topic. You want to be very clear about what ADHD is, how it can create problems for adults, and what constitutes effective treatment strategies.

Even in civilian life — paying private clinic fees — adults with ADHD have to be smart mental health consumers. So often, psychiatrists will assume they know how to treat ADHD but the evidence speaks otherwise. So, it’s important to choose a skilled clinician.

I hope that helps.

Best of luck to you!

Adhd Medications and Children With Anxiety

Copyright (c) 2008 Sandy Adamson

For those who are wondering, ADHD stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, a behavioral disorder that is now affecting almost 10% of the school-age chidren. In our day to day life, you may hear a lot of people associate ADHD medications with children with anxiety. From a more professional prospective, however, there is no direct connection between two. They are only associated for the simple fact that both relate to ADHD. If a child is suffering ADHD, he will have great difficulty in paying attention and focusing, which will ultimately lead to difficulty in achieving goals.

Despite its seemingly obvious symptoms, diagnosis of ADHD is not as easy as many would believe. This is because about two thirds of the children with ADHD also suffer other medical conditions the same time, and the common coexisting conditions include anxiety disorder, ODD (Oppositional Defiant Disorder) and CD (Conduct Disorder), mood disorder, and learning disabilities. Now, it is not hard to understand the association between ADHD and anxiety – they often go side by side!

In fact, about 25% of the ADHD sufferers also have anxiety disorders. There are both mental and physical symptoms, such as restlessness, fatigue, difficulty in concentration, irritability, insomnia, excessive worry, fear, heart racing, sweating, stomach pains, and diarrhea. Others may even develop OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder) and Tourette syndrome, as well as motor or vocal tics (movements or sounds that are repeated over and over).

In diagnosing ADHD with anxiety conditions, doctors usually will inquire into the complete medical history of the child, use their own observation, and conduct an interview with parents. With the medical technology today, ADHD cannot be completely healed. But, with appropriate medications and professional counselling, it can be successfully managed. The anxiety condition is also highly treatable with professional counseling coupled with medications. In both situations, early treatment may help prevent further development of mental problems, including suicide attempts.

There are several types of ADHD medications, such as stimulants, non-stimulants and anti-depressants. All of them have established effectiveness, but none is totally free in side-effects although there is currently no evidence of any long-term ones. The same can be said for medications for children’s anxiety, but of course the two medications cannot be used interchangeably.

Behavior therapy is another effective means to treat both ADHD and children’s anxiety. With that method, the doctors endeavor to adjust the behavior of affected children by making right changes to their home and school environment, improving their organisational skill, and setting up an appropriate reward and punish system.

Without a doubt, the parents’ involvement is an essential in implementing the behavior therapy. As the most trusted ones to their ill children, parents can provide enormous support to their kids in a number of ways, such as setting up a routine, improving organisational skills, minimising distractions, setting goals, and establishing confidence. As such, parent training is often an indispensable part of the treatment program.

Despite the importance of the role by parents of the affected children, some people are still attributing the cause of children’s mental problem to poor parenting. This, of course, is a complete myth. Today, the stresses faced by our teenagers are no less than adults, which include the worries for schooling and concerns about socialisation. Plus, teenagers’ minds are experiencing constant learning and changes. With that being said, there is no need for you to get over concerned if your child is affected. As discussed, ADHD can be effectively managed with behavioral therapy and ADHD medications, and children with anxiety can also be successfully treated with the same combination of methods.

Adhd Depression Comorbidity

adhd depression comorbidity

adhd depression comorbidity

Disorders that Accompany ADHD

Tourette Syndrome: A very small proportion of people with ADHD have a neurological disorder called Tourette Syndrome, which causes various nervous tics and repetitive mannerisms. While very few children have this syndrome, many of the cases of Tourette syndrome have associated ADHD.

Oppositional Defiant Disorder: As many as one-third to one-half of all children with ADHD–mostly boys–have another condition, known as oppositional defiant disorder (ODD). These children are often defiant, stubborn, non-compliant, have outbursts of temper, or become belligerent. They argue with adults and refuse to obey.

Conduct Disorder: About 20 to 40 percent of ADHD children may eventually develop conduct disorder (CD), a more serious pattern of antisocial behavior. These children frequently lie or steal, fight with or bully others, and are at a real risk of getting into trouble at school or with the police. They violate the basic rights of other people, are aggressive toward people and/or animals, destroy property, break into people’s homes, commit thefts, carry or use weapons, or engage in vandalism. These children or teens are at greater risk for substance abuse experimentation, and later dependence and drug abuse. They need immediate hlep.

Anxiety and Depression: Some children with ADHD often have co-occurring anxiety or depression. If the anxiety or depression is recognized and treated, the child will be better able to handle the problems that accompany ADHD. Vice versa, effective treatment of ADHD can have a positive impact on anxiety as the child is better able to master academic tasks.

Bipolar Disorder: There are no accurate statistics on how many children with ADHD also have bipolar disorder. Differentiating between ADHD and bipolar disorder in childhood can be difficult. In its classic form, bipolar disorder is characterized by mood cycling between periods of intense highs and lows. But in children, bipolar often seems to be a rather chronic mood dysregulation with a mixture of elation, depression, and irritability. Furthermore, there are some symptoms that can be present both in ADHD and biplar disorder, such as a high level of energy and a reduced need for sleep. Of the symptoms differentiating children with ADHD from those with bipolar disorder, elated mood and grandiosity of the bipolar child are distinguishing characteristics.

If you suspect your child has a comorbid disorder that has not been diagnosed, bring it up with his doctor at your next visit.

Information from this article comes from the National Institute of Mental Health Report “Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.”

Treatments for Adhd

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a condition that becomes apparent in some children in the preschool and early school years. According to a majority of medical research in the United States, as well as other countries. It is estimated that between 3 and 5 percent of children have ADHD, or approximately 2 million children in the United States. ADHD is a common behavioral disorder that affects an estimated 8% to 10% of school-age children. Boys are about three times more likely than girls to be diagnosed with it, though it’s not yet understood why. Children with ADHD act without thinking, are hyperactive, and have trouble focusing. ADHD is currently considered to be a persistent and chronic condition for which no medical cure is available. ADHD is most commonly diagnosed in children and, over the past decade, has been increasingly diagnosed in adults. About 60% of children diagnosed with ADHD retain the disorder as adults. ADHD has also been classified as a behavioral disorder and a neurological disorder or combinations of these classifications such as neurobehavioural or neurodevelopmental disorders.

ADHD is common, affecting 4% to 12% of school-age children. It’s more common in boys than in girls. ADHD is a medical condition that affects how well someone can sit still, focus, and pay attention. People with ADHD have differences in the parts of their brains that control attention and activity. These symptoms appear early in a child’s life. Symptoms of ADHD will appear over the course of many months, often with the symptoms of impulsiveness and hyperactivity preceding those of inattention. ADHD is a developmental disorder that is often said to be neurological in nature. ADHD has also been classified as a behavioral disorder and a neurological disorder or combinations of these classifications such as neurobehavioural or neurodevelopmental disorders. These compounded terms are now more frequently used in the field to describe the disorder. Effective treatments for ADHD are available. ADHD is treated most effectively, and cost efficiently, with medication. Psychotherapy is another option, with or without medication.

Omega-3 fatty acids, zinc, and magnesium mayhave benefits with regards to ADHD symptoms. Use tools that help you stay organized. Get plenty of exercise. Try this breathing exercise for starters. These medicines improve attention and concentration, and decrease impulsive and overactive behaviors. About 80 percent of children who need medication for ADHD still need it as teenagers. Over 50 percent need medication as adults. Some of the medicines for ADHD are methylphenidate , dextroamphetamine , pemoline , atomoxetine , and a combination drug called Adderall. Behavioral therapy (BT) helps people develop more effective ways to work on immediate issues. Social skills training can also help children learn new behaviors. Support groups help parents connect with other people who have similar problems and concerns with their ADHD children. Family counseling helps treat ADHD because it keeps parents informed and also shows them ways they can work with their kids to help.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Treatment Tips

2. Use a homework folder for parent-teacher communications.

3. Always be on the lookout for positive behaviors.

4. Teach good study skills.

5. Omega-3 fatty acids, zinc, and magnesium mayhave benefits with regards to ADHD symptoms.

6. Atomoxetine , has been tested in controlled studies in both children and adults.

Will taking prescribed stimulants effect results of a formal ADHD test?

I’ve had a number of documented problems, which I just recently learned from a psychologist was “clearly” ADHD. (documented from as early as grade school into HS, College, and employment). He sent me to a psychiatrist who completely agreed, and prescribed me Adderall (but it may change to another option after he sees how It helps me). When I went back to the psychologist, he said that I should take a formal ADHD test so that theres formal “proof” should I need assistance or “reasonable accommodation”. My question is, if I start taking a stimulant to help with my symptoms, is it going to compromise the accuracy of a formal ADHD test?

Yes, it would. Make sure to stop the stimulant for a time equivalent to approximately 4.5 half lives prior to taking the test. . .

Is Use of Drugs for Adhd Really Necessary and What are the Risks?

Look at this figure – use of drugs to treat ADHD has TRIPLED in the past ten years worldwide!
This statistic is from a research team at the University of California at Berkeley. Similar fears have been expressed in Australia where the number of prescriptions for these ADHD drugs has doubled. I want to ask a question:- Is the use of drugs to treat ADHD essential and what alternatives are they?

The fact that the number of prescriptions has tripled does not mean that this disorder is on the increase ! It does NOT mean that we have discovered ever more efficient ways of testing for ADHD
either. It means, in my opinion, that our expectations and tolerance levels have shifted. It may also be due partly to the massive information campaign carried out by the drug companies aided and abetted by their ‘consultants’ – an army of doctors, paediatricians and child psychologists.

The problem is that the term ADHD has become a very handy label and a very lucrative one for some people. It is being used as an umbrella term to cover up all sorts of problems which may not be ADHD at all. Some examples are bipolar disorder, stress at home due to family problems, broken marriages, financial problems and a host of other factors which may cause symptoms of restlessness, distraction and hyperactivity on the part of the child who is at the centre of the storm.

What are the drugs used to treat ADHD ? The main ones are Ritain, Concerta, Vyvanse. These psychostimulant drugs are basically amphetamines and their use in childhood may lead to a certain dependence on them or other substances. While these drugs can help children to concentrate and improve their focus, there are serious side effects which every concerned parent should be wised up on because the family doctor may not know or may not simply want to share, what he or she knows about these drugs. The main ones are insomnia, irritability and stunted growth while weight loss due to a loss of appetite can lead to no end of problems for the worried parent. Not to mention trying to sell them as teenagers in the school parking lot.

There ARE alternative ADHD homeopathic remedies and they do not involve any dependence or risks either. Many parents do not know about these and indeed are told by doctors that they should not even consider them because there is no proof at all that they work. On the contrary there are studies that show that they are at least as, if not more, effective in treating ADHD. Drugs used to treat ADHD ARE risky and all you have to do is consult the FDA site for the real story and that in my view is played down. Join thousands of parents who refuse to be brainwashed and have a more open and tolerant view to ADHD alternative therapy. The site below is informative and there is a full one-year guarantee.

Anxiety Problem?

My boyfriend has been seeing a psychologist for probably close to 3 months now. She had been throwing around possible disorders (depression, ADHD, anxiety, bipolar), and has finally diagnosed him with an anxiety problem. He was prescribed depression meds a few years ago, but stopped taking them on his own. He’s going to a doctor tomorrow to start meds for anxiety, but I’m concerned. If he begins taking them, is this something he’ll have to do the rest of his life? Also, I’ve been told psychologists aren’t actual doctors and shouldn’t even diagnose patients.. that they should merely listen to problems because they are therapists and that’s all. Is this true? Why is a psychiatrist more qualified than a psychologist, and how much more qualified to diagnose are they?

First of all, I’d just like to clear up your confusion about psychology vs. psychiatry:

Yes, in a sense, all psychologists do is “listen to problems”, but this can be very effective. Your boyfriend’s psychologist can diagnose which disorders he has, but a psychiatrist can actually prescribe medications, and it sounds like your boyfriend can benefit from these.

With that out of the way, I just want to let you know that I completely understand what you’re going through. Around a year ago, my ex-girlfriend was in the exact situation that your boyfriend is in now – nearly the same disorders, same rebellious nature when it came to medication, etc., but with a couple of misdiagnoses. I know the pain of having someone you love struggle with mental illness, and it’s not fun…I really feel for you, and I hope that everything works out.

If your boyfriend is put on medication, it’s more than likely that he’ll be on them for a very long time, possibly, as you said, for the rest of his life. This isn’t a death sentence or anything, but be prepared for some difficult times while the doctors get the dosage correct. It can cause mood swings and a whole slew of side effects, but once everything is stabilized, it’ll hopefully be easier for him.

Once again, I completely empathize with you, and I hope that this will eventually be worked out.

Busting The Adult ADHD Myths

There sure are alot of myths about ADHD, especially when it come to ADHD adults. Here are some of the most common myths and the truth about them:

Myth #1: It is not possible to accurately diagnose ADD and ADHD in adults. While it is true that there is no single test that will diagnose this disorder, there are very clear and formal documented symptoms in the DSM-IV. These documented symptoms, listed by the American Psychiatric Association, have been researched, studied and evaluated. With this reliable source and other cross-references, current methods of diagnosing ADHD are very accurate.

Myth #2: Children outgrow ADHD. This myth is totally inaccurate and untrue. It has been found in a number of studies that ADHD is a neurobiological disorder that has to do with brain wiring. Although symptoms may not appear to be as severe in adulthood, ADHD is clearly a life-long disorder. This has been shown through several follow-up studies of persons suffering from ADHD. Moreover, it is important to realize that if ADHD is not diagnosed, it causes other emotional and psychological problems, such as depression and anxiety.

Myth #3: If you are a bright or intelligent person, you cannot have ADHD. This is totally untrue. In fact, individuals with ADHD tend to be higher in intelligence than much of the average public. ADHD has nothing to do with intelligence; it is a disorder involving the regulation of attention, and affects how well you can sit there and get things done, or how well you can listen to your boss or teacher. ADHD has nothing to do with how bright you are – Albert Einstein is thought to have had ADD!

Myth #4: You do not have ADHD because it was not apparent in your childhood. Unless you were the child bouncing off the walls during classes, it is highly probable that even if you do suffer from ADHD, this went unnoticed at school. Adults with ADHD without hyperactivity are prime suspects for not appearing to have ADHD. Many people with inattentive ADHD internalize their symptoms. Often, people do not associate this with the picture of hyperactivity or restlessness.

Myth #5: Everybody has ADDD symptoms sometimes, so why the diagnosis? This is like saying that everyone can get depressed, so why diagnose clinical depression? Yes, it is true that sometimes average people feel distracted, have a lack of focus and maybe some of the other ADHD symptoms. What is important is the degree that this is occurring and the duration of the symptoms, and if they are having significant problems performing tasks and activities that other people their age do not have issues with.

Adults only seek a diagnosis because ADHD is causing a problem. Often, when an adult is diagnosed with ADhD, they are relieved, as they realize that they do not have to entirely blame themselves for their struggles, and can seek treatment and move on in life.

ocd, tourettes, adhd, anxiety, depression, eating disorder….?

i have ocd, tourette’s, adhd, anxiety, and depression. i also suffered from anorexia a few years back, but i’m now recovered. i still struggle with eating, however.

ocd causes me to spend hours and hours doing tasks that shouldnt take that long. like cleaning and doing homework. i need everything to be perfect.
i feel embarassed to have tourette’s because i twitch a lot and people sometimes make fun of me. it’s also painful (my back, neck, and shoulders always hurt because my main tic is jerking my shoulder back and forth).
i get hyper because of my adhd. i also have trouble concentrating.
my anxiety and depression put my emotions on a roller coaster. i feel very worried all the time and hopeless and empty too.

it’s really hard living with all these issues. i dont want to deal with it anymore. what can i do to try to improve my life?

thank you so much.

I’ve used straterra and don’t take it for a long time. I’ve taken it for probally 7 and a half years and it almost killed me twice. I am having weird reactions, stay away from straterra.

Remedies for ADHD

Where is the natural solution? Where are the new remedies for ADHD?
The pharmaceutical giants are constantly bringing new drugs onto the market to combat ADHD. Sadly many of these have had such a bad press from the medical profession themselves that they do not inspire confidence in the increasing number of parents that have to make choices regarding their child’s ADHD diagnosis, in the face of pressure being put on them by medical practitioners and schools.
Films like Generation RX are freely available on the internet and highlight the problems parents face today in making choices.

ADHD is a complicated medical condition and so one remedy or vitamin pill is unlikely to alleviate the symptoms on its own. A totally natural holistic approach to the problem is the best solution.

One natural remedy which is very effective is the use of Bach Flower essences. What these do is to support the child’s emotional system. There are 38 remedies plus the famous composite remedy Rescue Remedy, which between them span the whole emotional spectrum. They are very good at balancing emotions and I have used them to good effect on children with emotional problems.

Various combinations of these remedies are ideal for addressing certain facets of this complex condition of ADHD. For example rescue remedy for stress, impatiens for constant fidgeting and being on the go, vervain for hyper enthusiasm, clematis for paying attention etc.

Normally you would look at a couple of drops of each remedy in a bottle of mineral water drunk throughout the day and could expect to see results in a few hours, certainly the first few days. A traditional remedy is made up in a 30 ml bottle and you would take a remedy programme over the space of 3 weeks. A much simpler way of taking these remedies are as combined essence sound e-frequencies, which are instantly downloadable onto your computer or phone. A leading edge process developed by Jacques Benveniste in the mid 90s, which represents the Bach remedies by a certain sound on the basis that every physical thing vibrates at a unique frequency.

They sound a bit odd. These remedies can be played in front of a glass or bottle of mineral water for about 10 seconds. We know from the leading edge work of Masuru Emoto, that water has the capacity to hold these sound frequencies as a memory. They are truly a 21st century solution which provide a way into one of the initial hurdles of combating the effects of ADHD behaviour with natural remedies.

Why does ADHD cause relationship problems?

I was divorced about two years ago. I absolutely loved my wife and she loved me. We didn’t know I had ADHD back then. For some reason, I just can’t understand how to do some things right in a relationship. Why is this? I really tried to always be the best I could be, but I had two sides to me; a very emotional lover or a jerk. Do you ever have this problem? Do you just not understand what people want and why they think you are being wrong, bad, or negative? Do you ever find yourself doing better for a while by doing what they ask, only to fall back in the same old routine without knowing why or even being aware of it? Keep all of my questions in mind. I want to know if ADHD is at the root of my communication and relationship problems by hearing about yours.

if you have ADHD/ADD, and you are not on medication- it can cause issues, indeed. Because your mind is constintly going a million miles per hour, its hard to concentrate, and you have problems completing tasks….which isnt good, especially for a relationship.

If you ARE on ADHD/ADD medication it can either be good for you or bad for you…For some people ADHD/ADD medication such as Ritalin, or Adderall makes people feel “zombie” like…Or in other words it makes them feel dull/boring.

My advice is – If your having problems and your not on a ADHD medication, than try it out.
If you ARE on ADHD medication than maybe get off it and try non-pharmacutical methods.

Good Luck & Sorry to hear about the problems.

Could Alternative Medicine For ADHD Be A Treatment Option Worth Considering

Certainly the biggest concern for most parents of ADHD children is finding the safest and most effective treatment method possible. One would think that once the initial diagnosis confirmed the presence of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder the path would be clear cut from that point on. Sadly, this is not the case.

There are truly as many different treatment options, including alternative medicine for ADHD, as there are symptoms. The primary symptoms are inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity followed by a long list of secondary symptoms including anticipation of failure, worry, boredom, loss of motivation, frustration, low self esteem, sleep disturbances, and hopelessness. There is also the concern of overlapping conditions such as OCD, bi-polar disorder, learning disorders, and oppositional defiant disorder. As you can see the list is long, leading to the possible implementation of multiple prescription medications, all of which have potential serious side effects.

This has brought many parents of ADHD children into a new world of treatment known as alternative medicine ADHD.

Whether you are talking about conventional treatment options such as the stimulants Ritalin or Adderall or alternative medicine for ADHD experts agree that the best way to treat this complex condition is through a multimodal approach. In other words, by implementing several different treatments that complement one another  you will be improving the chances for success. For one person the winning formula may include medication, diet, exercise, and behavior modification. For someone else it may include homeopathic alternative medicine for ADHD, talk therapy, and neurofeedback. Additionally, some therapies may be classified as short term or temporary fixes, while others tend to produce long lasting positive results.

All of the above treatment options have worked great for some and not so well for others. Thus, finding the right treatments and managing them takes some study, planning, organization, and perseverance. One might wonder who has the hardest job the ADHD child who has to cope with problematic symptoms on a daily basis or the parent who not only has to manage their child but investigate and make informed decisions on what type of treatment option to pursue. To make life easier, most professionals in the field of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder suggest finding a specialized medical professional to work hand in hand with you to determine and manage treatment. For instance, if alternative medicine for ADHD is your choice, then a naturopathic doctor or natural health specialist would be suggested. If diet modification is the avenue you feel will work best then a professional specializing in nutrition would be suggested.

For those struggling with ADHD finding an effective treatment option is a necessary first step. The most common method of conventional treatment are stimulants, such as Ritalin, Adderall and Cylert. While effective in the short run, all stimulant medications come with a number of serious label warnings. The risk of side effects, or perhaps lack of success with stimulants, has prompted many to investigate other options. A couple examples of this are behavior modification therapy and/or alternative medicine for ADHD. Alternative medicine for ADHD is a side effect free way to address such problematic symptoms as inattention, distractibility, impulsivity, erratic behavior and hyperactivity, and can be used both as a standalone treatment or as a compliment to other nonprescription alternatives.

Biofeedback- An effective therapy

Biofeedback is a therapy which is also known by the name of EEG Biofeedback therapy. This therapy is very useful especially for mental disorder including various physical and emotional conditions also. Infact this therapy can be a very effective complimentary therapy for cancer patients who are undergoing chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or surgery.

Though Biofeedback therapy can’t cure cancer but it can provide a cancer patient with the ability to reduce his stress, muscle tension and pain. In general, have been around for about 40 years and have primarily been used to assist in relaxation and for conditions related to stress and to muscle impairments.

Apart from that biofeedback is an exciting Breakthrough to healing Physical and Emotional Dysfunctions. This holistic healthcare approach is also referred to as neurotherapy and has been used in the treatment of various physical, emotional and mental conditions. There are several areas in which biofeedback therapy has shown promising results such as: chronic migraine conditions and severe strain headaches, Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Behavior and Substance Addiction Treatment, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Depression, Bipolar, and other psychological disorder and Neurological injuries resulting from head trauma, tumors, or toxic exposure.

Moreover, Biofeedback therapy effectively helps the people to deal with the stress of migraines and teach a patient how to lower the body temperature, lower the heart rate and decrease the amount of sweating and muscle tension. Not only this, Biofeedback can also help people to learn to change their behavior to get a “reward”, such as noticing stressful triggers and purposely doing relaxation exercise so that they can keep the stress from affecting then in a harmful way.

Even if you are having trouble relaxing or sleeping well at night you can also rely on Biofeedback therapy and a large number of individual call biofeedback treatments a true godsend because of its effectiveness with their issues as it is a very good complimentary therapy for all the individuals who are facing different kinds of mental problems by providing them the ability to reduce their stress, muscle tension and Depression.

The truth is that during the last forty years and more a big number of patients having mental disorder get benefited by using the Biofeedback therapy and even for cancer patient also it can be an effective solution to let them have the ability to reduce their muscle tension and pain.

Thus, if you are the one who is facing any kind of mental problem and need an option which can help you to be relax and keep the stress away to you then don’t you can rely on Biofeedback.

What type of therapist should I seek for the following types of issues…?

I know there are different types of therapists out there for different issues. I am dealing with what I think is atachment disorder, PTSD, ADHD, MPD or DID.

I have a plethera of questions about the sexual things I like as well as coping with the above mentioned things.

I think I will need at least a year or so of counseling to really identify and resolve all of this.
I use regression to babyhood to cope with stress, I am very unmotivated in work and school, I am compulsive when it comes to buying things, and I have an over active fantasy life. I just want to find a way to get this all into a managable bundle its not so much that I want to stop being into weird sexual things as much as I want to be able to understand myself and control myself better.

It sounds as though you need a therapist (either clinical social worker or psychologist) with experience in trauma related disorders in general as it isn’t possible to tell what you actually have based on your post. All the disorders you listed require far more symptoms than what you identified (though I realize you may have only listed a few things) and it’s very possible that you may not have any of those disorders you listed.
For your information and reference only, here is an excerpt from some of my previous posts on DID, but this is in no way meant to suggest that I think you have this based on the info you provided but it may help you clarify it more yourself:

DID is the existence of two or more separate personalities or personality states within one person, with each alter having distinctly different ways of thinking, feeling, behaving and relating to the world and distinctly different memories, each part having amnesia for the other parts’ memories. It is born from repeated and severe abuse and involves the defense mechanism of dissociation and generally develops before the age of 10 as children are far more likely to dissociate.
DID is often misdiagnosed and it is very common for a person to have had multiple different psychiatric diagnoses before it is definitively identified as DID. The symptoms frequently overlap with symptoms of schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder, Depression, Anxiety Disorders (all), PTSD, other Dissociative Disorders and Somatoform Disorders as well as Borderline Personality. It requires extremely careful assessment and a high level of trust by the patient before alters reveal themselves. The diagnosis cannot be finalized before a therapist has actually made contact with another alter and observed the switch between alters.
The hallmark symptom is amnesia, which can be partial or complete depending on the level co-consciousness that exists between alters. Folks with the disorder describe the amnesia as “missing time” or blank periods, often daily or weekly, where they cannot account for their whereabouts or behavior. It is this amnesic barrier between parts that often leads to the most bizarre and distinctive signs and symptoms: not recognizing familiar people; not remembering highly significant events in their lives (like the birth of their first child, for example); finding purchases or articles of clothing/possessions, writings or drawings that they have no recollection of having bought or created. They are frequently accused of lying because they disavow their own behavior which is remembered by one part, while the amnestic part is completely unaware of it. Other unusual symptoms include: an exceptionally high tolerance for physical pain (they split off physical sensation which becomes encapsulated in one or several alters without others feeling it); not recognizing themselves in a mirror; using different names; having dramatically different skills and abilities that seem to be alternately present and then vanish (one alter may be able to drive a car while the sudden emergence of a child alter results in complete loss of this ability until the adult alter re-emerges); completely different opinions and behaviors (leading to the mislabeling of Bipolar or Borderline Personality.
Often communication across between separate alters takes place in the form of hearing voices, hence these folks frequently get misdiagnosed as schizophrenic. The key distinction here is whether the voices are experienced as coming from inside the person’s head (DID) or outside one’s head (Schizophrenia/Bipolar Disorder).
The separate identities develop in response to traumatic experiences which the child is unable to integrate and so they become “split off” from awareness and begin to take on a life of their own.
Folks with DID often self-injure, frequently a result of internal battles between persecutor alters and weaker alters and there are continual battles for control of the body and “time out” in the body between competing alters.
Symptoms of depression and anxiety are frequent and common and the picture is further complicated by the fact that one alter can meet all clinical criteria for Depression, while another part experiences no symptoms whatsoever. One part can be psychotic and experience no side effects from meds while another non-psychotic part has all the side effects and will stop taking meds. You can imagine that attempting to medicate such a disorder becomes an absolute nightmare.
Other symptoms include flashbacks and nightmares, hence the confusion with PTSD. Sometimes there are fugue states and clients will switch and “come to” in the body and have no idea how they arrived in the situation they are in, not know the people they are with and be completely disoriented. I had one client call me from another state after being away for a few days and having no idea how she got there or how to get home. Depersonalization and trance states are common and hence the overlap with other Dissociative disorders.
Folks with DID frequently experience multiple somatic symptoms for which there is no organic basis. They experience partial body memories of abuse without the actual memory of the event and thus exhibit strange physiological symptoms and are often labeled as Somatoform disorders or hypochondriacs.
I could go on and on, but suffice it to say that virtually any symptom of any disorder can be found at some point in a person with DID. Treatment is almost exclusively through psychotherapy as medication is merely palliative and an adjunct during periods of acute anxiety or depression. Treatment aims at initially contracting against suicidal and self-destructive behavior and attempts to establish safety first. Many DID folks enter treatment in horrendous circumstances where they are frequently in highly abusive relationships or are themselves abusive. Given the multiple alters, they may be both victim and perpetrator both within themselves alone and in the context of their relationships. The second primary goal is establishing communication and negotiation among alters to decrease amnesia and contradictory, self-defeating behavior. Ultimately the goal becomes integration of alters into one cohesive whole which involves sharing of memories and feelings across alters and a merging, where all parts continue to be present, but constant.

ADHD has been identified as a disease with the right diagnosis and treatment can be cured. An ADHD treatment includes a series of steps. Starting with the right diagnosis, treatment can only succeed if all the deficiencies and requirements of patients accurately identified and then targeted. A large proportion of ADHD treatment is primarily to understand that ADHD is a disease in which intensity in each child. Therefore, each case must be looked at, and no single treatment can be applied. It is also important to understand that ADHD is a chronic disease, long-term treatment.

ADHD treatment starts with the assessment of the intensity of the illness of the child. If the child is exposed to a certain type of behavior, such as disruptive behavior in school herself, and so on, should be considered that he is unable, in situations where they do these things can. Constant monitoring is an important part of treatment of ADHD.

A lot of drugs in the treatment ADHAD. But as already mentioned, ADHD is a disease from one child to another. Before administering any drug your child, make sure that you consult a doctor. The dosage depends on the height of the illness of the child. The drugs for the treatment of ADHD often have some side effects of appetite for a stomach ache. It is therefore important to ensure a correct diagnosis before ADHD treatment.

What is bilineage hypoplasia? Does it cause cancer?

An adult male of age 53, has RBC-2.44; Hemoglobin-8; Plateletes- 165,000; MCV- 108.8

Yes, it can be one form of malignancy.

The incidence of myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) with erythroid hypoplasia/aplasia is probably underestimated because in most patients it is mistaken for acquired pure red blood cell aplasia. This report describes three children who fulfilled the criteria for MDS with erythroid hypoplasia/aplasia. All these patients had transfusion dependent anaemia, reticulocytopenia, erythroid hypoplasia/aplasia, severe dysgranulopoiesis, and dysmegakaryopoiesis.

Red cell aplasia is a rare disorder characterised by a profound reduction in erythroblasts in the bone marrow. It can be a congenital disorder (Diamond-Blackfan syndrome) or can be acquired in association with an underlying disease. In the acquired group, the most common disease associations are with thymoma, viral infections, connective tissue diseases, and malignancy.1 Occasional reports have documented the occurrence of erythroid hypoplasia/aplasia in patients with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS).2,3 These patients present with severe anaemia, reticulocytopenia, and a paucity of recognisable erythroid cells (2–5%) in the bone marrow, associated with some evidence of an intrinsic cell defect.4–6 In addition to erythroid hypoplasia, bilineage or trilineage dysplasia in a high percentage of cells (> 20%) is a crucial determinant for the recognition of this entity.4 The exact prevalence of erythroid hypoplasia in MDS is not known. In a series of 360 cases of MDS diagnosed in a single institute over a 10 year period, six (prevalence of 1.6%) were found to have MDS with erythroid hypoplasia/aplasia.7 In a review of the literature, Garcia-Suarez et al came across only 16 well documented cases of MDS with erythroid hypoplasia/aplasia, including their one case.8 In that review, there was a male predominance (male to female ratio of 3 : 1), with a mean age of 70 years (range, 41–87). There were no paediatric cases in their series.

I am looking to find a chat group for people with anxiety disorder, depression, adhd, ocd, and similar disorders. Niacin And Adhd, Is There A Benefit?

Children and adults with ADHD have been found to have deficiencies in certain nutrients and supplements.  Vitamins, a healthy diet and certain herbs have shown substantial progress in the behaviors of ADHD.  Niacin and ADHD treatments have shown some successful results.

Niacin has also been used for depression, bipolar disease and schizophrenia.  Many of these types of therapies are done through orthomolecular therapeutic nutrition which is based on the principal that if your body is given the substances that it needs, your health will be greatly improved and you can treat any disease.  Your body is a symphony of molecules and reactions that depend on “fuel” to make it work correctly.  Vitamins B3, B6, C, magnesium and zinc have shown superior results in helping ADHD and autistic children.  Niacin or NADH (Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide) is a very significant coenzyme in the human body and especially the brain thus, niacin and ADHD can help restore healthy brain function and has shown outstanding results with Alzheimer’s patients.

If your child is not eating an abundance of veggies and proteins which are high in niacin you may want to supplement their diet.  ADHD niacin is water soluble so what the body does not use, it will be flushed through the system.  However, everyone should have a good multi mineral supplement, especially children if they are not eating well balanced meals.  ADHD niacin is not a cure all by itself, a combination of diet, healthy lifestyle, nutrients and homeopathic remedies have been shown to help the ADHD child.

Besides niacin and ADHD another therapy that has helped hundreds of children are homeopathic remedies.  Homeopathic remedies work on the whole body rather than just covering up the symptoms like prescription drugs.  Find a product with herbs that help in focusing and calming such as; ginkgo biloba used in Chinese medicine it helps maintain the function of the circulatory system, scutellaria laterifolia, or skullcap has been used as a nerve tonic and centella asiatica or gotu cola supports healthy brain and nervous system, centella asiatica is recommended to support a healthy brain.

Understanding Bipolar Disorder – 9 Symptoms And 10 Signs Revealed

Bipolar disorder is also known by manic-depressive illness. It’s characterized by incidents of serious depression along with mania. It’s seen when there is a sudden mood swing of a person that can unexpectedly change from happy to sad to irritable and back again. This cycle repeats itself. This change of depression to mania and vice versa can happen within a short amount of time. The person’s patterns for the illness will show through to others around them. Being able to tell this pattern and seeing it will help in the next stage of the person’s disease.

No doubt there are definite signs from when a person goes from a mania state to depression state. When they are in the state of mania, bipolar illness can be familiar through these symptoms.

1. hyperactivity which can lead to restlessness and rapid talking
2. extreme feelings of high
3. excessive irritableness
4. belief in unrealistic powers
5. lack of or poor judgment
6. increase of sexual urges
7. abuses alcohol and other drugs
8. aggressive behaviors
9. denial that anything is wrong with him or her

Yet, when a person is suffering from depression, the disease can be known through these signs.

1. persistent sadness or anxious mood
2. pessimism
3. uncharacterized feelings of unworthiness and guilt
4. low sex drive
5. exhausted even though there is a lack of physical activity
6. energy level decrease even with day to day activities
7. lack of or poor judgment
8. decrease in appetite
9. chronic pains not due to physical activity
10. suicidal thoughts or tendencies

The illness is thought to generate in the teenage years and is carried right through the person’s life. The difficult behind this disease is that it not easily seen as an illness but rather noted as an attitude or hyperactivity problem. Many kids diagnosed with ADD (attention deficit disorder) or ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) may be incorrectly diagnosed or rather need bipolar treatment in conjunction with ADD/ADHD. It is because of the lack of knowledge that some incorrect diagnosis leads some bipolar sufferers to abuse drugs and alcohol, have bad relationships, have poor job quality or job skills and some have suicidal thoughts. It is currently thought that nearly two million Americans suffer from bipolar disorder.

In its early stages of manic-depressive disorder, hypomania does take place. The person, in this stage, shows an extreme high energy level that can lead to impulsive, not to mention, reckless behavior. The bipolar patient will deny he is doing anything wrong and in his mind, he is correct. For those around him, they can recognize the improbable behaviors the person exhibits.

Another common problem with getting the right treatment for those who suffer from bipolar is the misdiagnosis because early signs can be attributed to alcohol or drug abuse. In later stages, the person can suffer a full clinical depression or breakdown.

Medicine is used to treat the disease. Most often, doctors will prescribe the drug Lithium, which is helpful in controlling mania and the reoccurrence of mania and depression. Scientists have also tested anticonvulsant medicines for the process of kindling. Kindling is the process in which sensitivity to stress by the brain results in abnormal behaviors and activities. Lithium has been found to block the process in the early stages… other medicines which are carbamezepine and valproate work in the later stages. These treatments have been approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Adminstration). Electroconvulsive therapy is great for those where medications will not work, mostly in severe cases of the disease.

hypersexuality, ADHD, Bipolar disorder, learning disabilty?

i heard most ppl said when someone have ADHD and bipolar disorder and that person wont success in relationship because of threat relationship.. they tense to have violent.. that’s happen to me because my ex almost abuse me. I hate it when my ex is hypersexuality because whenever we go.. my ex always check ppl’s ass or whatever. my ex also have learning disabilty, it kinda feel strange to me because my ex learned sign language very good (i’m deaf) but my ex dont remeber when is my bday or my last name or where i was born or what is my fav. colors or food or whatever.. it didnt make sense.. so my question is.. Is someone who have hypersexuality, ADHD, bipolar disorder and learning disabilty will success in any relationship? cuz i hasnt heard anyone success in relationship yet so far..

Yes, you can have a successful relationship – but the number of issues that you’ve listed is quite substantial. I think that it would take a lot of work with a qualified mental health professional. Also, the older the person is and the more he’s willing to work with these issues in his life the better things will be. The best scenario would be someone who’s dealt with his issues (and keeps doing so for the rest of his life) and is in a good place BEFORE he begins a committed relationship.
I was in a relationship with someone for many years with these issues. He refused to deal with it, even believing that he didn’t have problems (which, by the way, is one of the classic symptoms).
So we eventually divorced and he’s been married and divorced 4 more times in the 11 years we’ve been apart. We had 3 children together, and it’s been very difficult for them. Two of them struggle with the same issues (alot of mental health issues are genetic and can be passed to your children) and two of them also struggle with drugs and alcohol (another hallmark of mental illness – people tend to self medicate and addictions run HIGH). Also, girls with fathers who act like this tend to pick partners who act like this and it goes on and on……
So……………. do these relationships work? If I had to do it over again, I wouldn’t. I would have picked a much saner person to be my children’s father. It’s a hugely difficult road to pick.
Good luck

adhd crazy

Do you believe in metal disorders such as ADHD?

I think psychiatry on a whole thing is big scam. I dont believe that a child is mentally deficient if he or she likes to frolic and be adventerous. I have heard of some crazy things like arithemitic disorder and avoidant personality disorder etc. I think too many people refuse to take responsibilty for themselves and blame their faults on genetic ‘flaws’. I dont think I should stuff my kid with pills if he misbehaves, struggles with reading or would rather play in a park rather than do home work. If a person decides to party every night or become criminal it is because they choose to and not because of some chemical imbalance. Very few of these diseases have been proven to exist and there is a huge market for selling drugs to ‘cure’ these unknwon diseases. What do you think?

Yes, I do believe that ADHD can be diagnosed.

The only problem is that a lot of kids get the stamp or people say they have ADHD and so can’t help being restless or not being able to concentrate.
It’s so sad that so many parents accept Ritalin as the solution, because it’s not.
It’s a dangerous drug that suppresses the child’s character.
Ritalin is an amphetamine.
Nowadays a lot of children are under stress. They have to accomplish much more than they are able to cope with.
This feeling in adults causes burn outs and they can express that in several ways.
A lot of children are burnt out at an early age, dealing with problem that are family related. Dealing with parents in a non-happy marriage ( even when you are not arguing in front of your child they’ll still feel the pressure to act right), or loosing a grand-parent, some other loved one.

Children in the US get a lot of home work and have not much time to relax after work. they build up a huge amount of stress they can’t release. Causing parents and teachers to think they have ADHD.

Another bottle of the drug Ritalin gets ordered to suppress the child instead of taking time to teach them how to cope with the situation and not being a hassle in class or at home.

I have worked as a social work for 7 years and heard many cases of children eventually going for the stronger stuff.
Even my husbands best friend from high school started to go for speed( where it is related too) and eventually cocaine.

I’m highly against Ritalin and I believe that children need to become a priority of society again and need to be looked after far more.

Did you know that a US school gets extra financial benefits from the government for every child that’s diagnosed? No, wonder they want all these kids tested.
