I am 16 and in medicine for ADHD. The name of the meds are really Intuniv & Strattera, I tried to pull them out. Because I thought I was really happy with my performance on not using it and know that I can work without it. But my parents do not think I can do it and I will strive to live in When I am off, I have same problem as when I'm in it. But worse in the eyes of my parents. As a result, there is a bit of bias when testing out the behavior of me. meds meds I did some research and found that since they were created in your system will be cold turkey side effects make the least. What I want to do is to stop using. meds, but it seems to hide the pills that I take. It after a few weeks, I'll tell my parents, so the least bias. This is a good idea to do with How can my meds.

It is normal to have such memory Limited?

I was reading a book about the history of the world with more than 1100 pages is true that I found some place and time. More interesting than others. Are easier to remember any details of the chapter, some more than others. But I have found that my memory of most of what I've read tend to be vague rather than specific. For example, I have no ambiguity of the importance of Confucianism in Chinese history and the "mandate of heaven", but I can not remember all of the royal family or their parents. Also, I know that the shoguns in Japan usually have more power than the emperor. But I can not remember all the details shogunates around the shift in power. I know that I have ADHD may be at One reason my memory is. Limited to only one, but I tend to remember. generalities rather than specific?

No, in fact, it perfectly. And you usually have a big problem if you tend to remember more specific than generalities of the human mind works by the most in the world. and the demands on the generalities. To a local focus. There is no way just too much information for the brain to remember. (Even though it wants to remember something about using). Therefore, it is a very basic. Understanding of how to share important experiences and see how the complex. For example, you think that in the past. You need to know the specifics of everything that occurs with You? Of course not, and if you think you have a bunch of relatively useless information that conflicts with important general information. Brain issues a "call". To think in generalities of course, is it likely to continue to do it when we want to concentrate on only. Then it will take quite an effort to force the mind. Of course, it can do too. You will be trying to make it special than just "common understanding".

what is the difference between thetwo?

my mom and my doctor says i have both ADD and ADHD. but every one at school says they are the same thing but they are not. what are the differences between ADD and ADHD? i really need to know. to prove them wrong

The difference between ADD and ADHD, in short, is a simple “nothing.” But since I’m sure you want a more of a detailed explanation, I will elaborate.

Through the years ADHD (Attention Deficit/Hyperactive Disorder) has had many names. ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) is one of those many names. ADD has been used so recently and so frequently that many people still use it instead of ADHD. This has naturally created confusion among adults with ADHD and parents of children who have ADHD. It raises the question “Which one do I have?”

Imagine there is a new disease in San Francisco. The doctors study it and call it “Disease A.” Later that week, in Denver, doctors discover that same disease and not knowing that disease already exists, call it “Disease B.” Everywhere this disease shows up it is called by a different name. No one has made the connection that Disease A is the same thing as Disease B and C and D and etc… One day all the doctors get together at a conference and decide that all these alphabet diseases are the same thing. They call it by one name since twenty names for the same disease is confusing.

Now, try to relate the fictional story to ADHD, previously known as ADD, brain damaged syndrome, minimal brain dysfunction (MBD), hyperkinetic impulsive disorder, and so on. Since all of these have no major differences and are almost exactly alike, they are given one name. While the diversity is not as substantial, there are different types of ADHD just as there are different types of cancer. Could you imagine if lung cancer was called something totally different than colon cancer? It would get very confusing.

Some professionals still use the term “ADD” but it is the same as if they used “ADHD.” To sum it up, ADD technically is ADHD and vice versa.

There are two main types of ADHD: Inattentive and Hyperactive. Both are considered ADHD. If someone is diagnosed with ADD it’s the same as “ADHD: Predominately inattentive.” Predominately inattentive means that the hyper-active elements of ADHD are not as relevant

Why Do People Hate Hearing Honest/Truthful Answers?

This is more of a rant, than a genuine question, but…

I notice that people on yahoo answers hate reading truthful answers. This is just an example, not something that really happened: Someone will ask a question about how to lose weight. I’ll get a pile of thumbs down when I answer with “Eat less and exercise.” while other responses will be feel good answers like “take these magic pills, but neglect your calorie count, because the pills should work” will get thumbs up. Unbelievable.

If I ask a question, I don’t want bullsh** or feel good answers that are sugar coated. What gives?
Not to mention it gets picked as the best answer

You are so right! It’s because we’ve become a country full of narcissistic people who need to have their ears tickled all the time! Consequently, we either have to stroke everyone and tell them how wonderful they are, or weigh our words so that we’re politically correct, or we are considered to be mean-spirited and prejudiced and who knows what else! It’s so ridiculous — plus, the added down side is that our children are being brought up to believe that they should feel happy at all times, they should not have to compete, and they shouldn’t have to eat what they don’t want to, wear what they don’t want to, or DO what they don’t want to. The result? Mediocrity at best and the great probability that we are raising our children so poorly that they will not be able to compete in this global society. As soon as we succumbed to the notion that we need to feel good inside and out at all times and if we don’t, we have some alphabet soup psychological disorder that must be explored ad nauseum…well, we were on our way to ruin! ADHD-ADD-OCC-OCD and on and on. People need to find self-control and self discipline…How’s that for a continuation to your rant? I SO enjoyed your ‘rant’…Thanks for starting my day with all my blood circulating and raring to go!!!

adult adhd alternative medicine

Mailing prescribed adderall from US to London?

I have a prescription for Adderall in the US, however in January I left to study abroad in London for a semester. Due to the shortage, my pharmacy told me I couldn’t get my usual xr’s until later in the month. In addition, even after explaining my situation, my insurance would not let me get a 6 month supply so now I only have a 3 month of irs which really don’t help me that much. Will my parents be able to ship me the rest of my Adderall to the UK if they mail it with a letter from my doctor, prescription and labels.. etc. or will it still be detained at customs?

You can bring in your own legally prescribed Adderall supply as long as the drugs are in their original packaging and clearly marked or in a medicine bottle which also clearly identifies the contents. You must also have a letter from the prescribing doctor.

However, you will also need a personal import licence (see link below) if you need to bring in excess of three months supply into the UK.

You cannot import the drug by post though, without falling foul of the Misuse of Drugs Act (1971). If you do, expect the drugs to be seized and destroyed by UK Customs and to receive either a warning letter or (rarely) arrest.

If you wish to obtain Adderall in the UK legally then it’s possible but tricky. Only certain doctors (usually psychiatrists) are allowed to prescribe it and they will normally insist upon making their own diagnosis rather than relying on the word of a US colleague as US doctors have a reputation for supplying what the patient asks for rather than what the patient must or must not have (an infamous recent example being Dr. Conrad Black). It’s amazing how many US students seem to have ADD or ADHD requiring Adderall (which conveniently seems to help with memory retention and study) and how few of their non-student peers seem to have those conditions. Outside of North America, the prevailing medical opinion is that ADD and ADHD is far less common in adults and where it does exist the symptoms present very differently to those shown in children and respond better to cognitive behavioural therapies so you will have an uphill struggle persuading a UK psychiatrist that you have a condition for which Adderall is the cure.

Regular UK doctors are, however, readily able to prescribe Ritalin without referral to a psychiatrist and it remains the most widely prescribed drug worldwide for treatment of ADD and ADHD in both children and adults. In two thirds of patients, Ritalin is every bit as effective as Adderall and in one third of patients it’s very slightly less effective at treating ADD/ADHD symptoms (see link for reference). Ritalin as an alternative will therefore be slightly easier to obtain.

Natural ADD Remedy! Any Suggestions?

Is there any natural remedy/supplement that helps with ADD? I have Adult ADD (who doesn’t now days)! This has been a big problem for me lately, I think it’s the stress and such but, I am determined not to go on prescription medication. I’m sure I’ll get silly answers but thanks in advance to the serious advisors 🙂

I’m from Australia and they have started to treat children with fish oil instead of ritulin(or however you spell it) and dexamphetamine. This might help you. You can get it at Pharmacy. Morman Tea is also filled with Ephedra if you could get this it might help.

Best Natural Adult Add Supplement

best natural adult add supplement

What are the best natural supplements for adult ADD?

I’m a 21 year old with ADD, I was diagnosed in the fourth grade. I haven’t been taking any drugs for about two years now, but since I started college I was thinking about taking something to help me concentrate. I’d prefer natural supplements, as I do not have health insurance at the moment, and when I was taking prescription meds I hated them (Name an ADD medicine, I’ve probably been on it). I’ve heard something about Sam-E, I think it was called, but I don’t know much about it. Any advice would be great, thanks!

Beware when trying Serotonin inhibitors. Sam-e and St. Johns Wort tend to be more beneficial for depression so they increase the activity of your receptors instead of stabilizing them. So you could put yourself on edge. Which will cause a bigger problem in concentration. L-Theanine is a relaxant that is said to make strives in ADD. You could find it at your local Vitamin store.

Diet in adults is a big factor. Adult ADD tends to lead to a bigger craving for carbohydrates. Cutting down on Carbohydrates, sugars, dairy and saturated fats will help you to regulate your focus. Also DHA, Magnesium and Amino Acids will help with brain function to maintain concentration. It sound’s like a lot of work. Unfortunately there is no cure all for it, just a remedy to suppress symptoms. Simply following all these steps will make enough difference that you will notice a difference and your peers will too.

Adhd Coaching Virginia

Are you in Charge of your Life?

Is life just passing you by without you taking any part in it? Is your voice not being heard? The following are six signs that you know you are letting your life slip by without having any input. But have no fear, there are ways to take back charge of your life.

1. You aren’t taken seriously

When in a group of people, even by the water cooler, your mouth is shut tight. You think of witty and intelligent things to say, yet you are silenced. Or, when you are able to pry your mouth open, the social butterflies take complete control and cut you off. You know that you can contribute to the conversation as well, but you just need an extra boost of confidence to make that first step forward.

2. You never take a stand on any issue

You think you have opinions on issues, but you’re not sure if you should talk about these sensitive topics. When you really do think about it, you start to feel a little more one way about an issue than the other way. Be educated first before discussing the issue. Research the topics and find out information regarding both sides of an issue. Once you think you know enough about these topics, then you will be able to have confident conversations.

3. You are afraid to follow your dreams

You have dreams, you know what makes you the happiest. But you are afraid of the future, afraid of the uncertainties, and possibilities. You are afraid to make the first move, so you hold on to the security of your present life.

4. You could be bigger, but you stay small

You talk big. You dream big. You make plans in your head, but just accept what you are given. Achieving your dreams isn’t always the easiest thing to do. So you stay at your job that pays the bills.

5. You can’t do anything without someone else’s approval

You have ideas and plans but can’t go anywhere with them without asking someone else if they think your thoughts are good. You think your ideas are great when they first come to fruition, but the thought of someone else disapproving of your ideas makes all self-confidence run away.

6. You have no plan for your life

Wake up, go to work, go to sleep; wake up, go to work, go to sleep; wake up, go to work, go to sleep. Interspersed with the occasional party or time spent with friends on weekends, this is how every day of your life has looked. You have no future plans for yourself. You just work the job you have and live the life you have accepted. You have thought of things that you could do, thinking “that could be neat,” but that’s all you do: just think about it.

If you are not in charge of your life, then one way that you can take charge of it and improve your quality of life is by hiring a life coach. Life coaches are increasingly popular these days among all types of people searching for self-improvement. They help you to refocus your life and to make it go in the direction you originally wished for. And, most of all, they give you hope for your life and future. So if you feel like you have no control over your life, then, maybe, it’s time to hire a life coach.

Adhd Natural Remedies For Adults

Monday, June 1st, 2009

adhd natural remedies for adults

A natural remedy for ADHD is omega 3 – or is it?

Is Omega 3 a natural remedy for ADHD? The simple answer is
no. Omega 3 is an essential fatty acid that is absolutely
vital for adults, hence the word ‘essential’ – for children
of birth age until age two, it is even more important that
they receive enough of the Omega 3 fatty acid DHA for the
healthy construction of the brain. Beyond two years, they
need EPA for the healthy function of the brain.

So why is it not a remedy? It is not a remedy for the
simple reason that it should already be included in the
diet, and not simply as an afterthought to add it to the
diet because the child or adult has ADHD.

Does this mean that if you give a person with ADHD
high-strength pharmaceutical grade fish oil in addition to
a poor diet, they will not feel any effects? The answer has
to be yes, of course they will feel the effects. If you
starve anyone for long enough of vital nutrients then the
body will react in certain ways – if you then replace those
nutrients, the body will return in time to its correct
balance.

What is ADHD? A good definition is as follows:

A common developmental and behavioural disorder, it is
characterised by poor concentration, distractibility,
hyperactivity, and impulsiveness that are inappropriate for
the child’s age. Children and adults with ADHD are easily
distracted by sights and sounds in their environment,
cannot concentrate for long periods of time, are restless
and impulsive, or have a tendency to daydream and be slow
to complete tasks.

Fish oil supplementation

With current research revealing that Omega 3 fatty acid
deficiencies may be a factor affecting learning
difficulties, authorities in Durham, England, initiated a
programme to see if it was possible that an improved diet
would lead to improvements in the classroom. But
overturning the high-carbohydrate, heavily-processed diets
that children typically consume was going to be a momentous
task. So they decided to see if fatty acids in the form of
a fish oil supplement could be of any use.

This was the largest and most extensive trial looking at
Omega 3 fatty acids and learning conditions to be carried
out within the United Kingdom.

This trial involved more than 100 children at 12 primary
schools in the Durham area. The trial looked at dyspraxia
and motor skills, but also assessed for dyslexia and ADHD.

Trial results

At the start of the trial, the percentage of children
within the clinical range of an ADHD diagnosis was set at
32% for the fish oil group and 31% for the placebo group.

After 3 months of omega 3 fish oil supplementation, the
percentage of children within the clinical range of an ADHD
diagnosis reduced to 18% for the fatty acid group, whereas
this only dropped 1 % for the placebo group.

A raw score was calculated from the teacher rating form
that assessed each child’s behaviour. After 3 months there
was a highly significant reduction seen in the fish oil
supplement group, compared to those on placebo, in this
behavioural score. The fatty acid group reduced from an
average score of 74.7 to 58.1., whereas the before and
after treatment scores for the placebo group were 69.5 and
67.9.

The active fish oil group also saw significantly reduced
teacher ratings on the Conners’ DSM ADHD global scale after
3 months, compared with the placebo group. The placebo
group saw similar improvements on this scale after crossing
over to the active fish oils for the 3-6 month period of
the trial.

Within 3 months children on the active supplement saw a
significant reduction on the rating scale of
Hyperactive-Impulsive behaviour, compared to those on
placebo. Further reductions were seen in the 3-6 month
period of the study.

Dramatic results were also seen within just 3 months of the
dyspraxia trial. The active group supplementing with Omega
3 fish oil saw significant improvements in reading (9.5
months), spelling (6.5 months) and behaviour, compared to
the placebo group where no overall improvement was made.

During the 3-6 month period when the placebo group crossed
over to Omega 3 fish oil supplementation, considerable
improvements were shown in the same areas, with an average
reading gain of 13.5 months and an average spelling gain at
over 6 months. The active group continuing supplementation
displayed further signs of progress or maintained their
improvement.

At the start of the trial, children were a year behind
their chronological age for reading and spelling, but after
the trial, the active group who had been on Omega 3 fish
oil throughout the trial made spelling and reading gains
over and above their age.

An alternative view

On the face of things these results look fairly conclusive.
However, when you take into account that by their own
admission they had a real battle with the children (and in
some cases parents) to change their eating habits then the
results – to a qualified dietician and anyone who knows
what a balanced diet is – swing. Far from seeming to show
that fish oil cures ADHD and dyspraxia, it rather appears
to demonstrate the need for a very balanced diet, with all
these nutritional components included in the first place.

What would be far more interesting than turning a lot of
unruly children’s diets into the correct balance and then
claiming that fish oil helps with ADHD, would be to take a
lot of children who eat a very balanced Mediterranean style
diet, which is already very balanced, and perform a trial
with those children to see if it actually improves their
reading or spelling ability.

Conclusion

Not all the children involved in the trial showed great
gains in behaviour, spelling and reading, and those
children that did show great gains were in my opinion
children who were very badly deficient in Omega 3 already
through a very poor diet.

The correct approach is not to supplement children with
fish oil, but to drastically improve the child’s eating
habits, following the example of a Mediterranean diet which
includes oily fish, and trying to cut out all additives and
preservatives and the wrong kinds of “bad fats”.
As most parents will know this is almost an impossibility,
but changing a few little things about the diet will make a
difference. As for the fish oil capsules, if you really
can’t get your child to eat oily fish then as this trial
proves, supplementing with a high quality fish oil
supplement is highly advisable so that your child can get
the correct amount of Omega 3 in their diet.

Sometips to Manage Add

ADD is an acronym for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. It is a condition where the patient is not able to maintain attention for a good period of time. Other symptoms of this disorder include impulsive behavior and motor restlessness. According to a research conducted, about 4.4% of all adults have ADD.

ADD is classified as a neurobiological disorder usually caused by problems in the dopamine neurotransmitter systems in the brain. Most cases of this disorder are inherited. It is proved that if a parent or a close blood relative has ADD then there is about 30% chance that a child will have ADD.

In case of twins, if one of the twins has developed ADD, then there is almost 50 percent chance that the other twin will also develop ADD. ADD is not a result of poor nutrition. It is a disease that develops due to parenting, allergies and drugs.

You need to go for a thorough analysis of your body in order to determine if the person has ADD and not any other health related problem.

When a person is unable to get adequate amount of neuro-chemicals, the brain is not stimulated properly. This makes it find different ways to increase their release. Things including physical activity, movement or anything related to stimulation are different ways. People with ADD stimulate their brains. In short, there is a good amount of reflex to their inadequate reception of neuro-chemicals. This makes people with ADD act in a particular way. They are literally unable to control their actions.

There are many problems this action causes to people with ADD when they face a situation that does not stimulate them such as school work. This results in poor performance in the classroom. Actually, a person or child with ADD cannot help indulging in a particular act. It is simply out of their control.

People with ADD cannot stay in a particular relationship or staying employed. These people with ADD may do things to stimulate themselves. This can be reckless and dangerous. This is the reason that results in complicating their live with legal problems.

Some steps to cope with and healing attention deficit disorder:

ADD is a serious disorder. It results in depression, relationship inattentiveness, and behavioral problems. These problems can eventually lead to drug abuse, suicide and alcoholism. Here are some important steps to follow in order to correct it:

a) Education

Understand that ADD is caused by abnormalities in the cortex region of the brain. These are mostly genetics.

b) Medical attention

Do not wait at all. Get medical aid on an immediate basis.

c) Nutrition

You should eat a well balanced diet. Try to take multivitamins and drink plenty of water. Multivitamins are a necessity as many of the foods we eat lack in nutritional value. Take omega’s supplements.

d) Hydration

You need to drink at least 8-10 glasses of water per day for proper mental functioning.

e) Plan

Use a day planner. Keep a track of things you need to do on a daily basis. This will eliminate stress and anxiety.

f) Learn

Believe in the art of memorization and studying. Exercise learning memory techniques like associations, linking, lists etc.

g) Meditate

Stress and anxiety can make the condition worse. Prayer and meditation can benefit ADD sufferers.

ADHD And Sugar – Can It Really Affect Your Child’s Behavior?

Sugar and salt are the great health enemies so it is no surprise that ADHD and sugar is a hot topic right now. Food manufacturers have a lot to gain by advertising their so called healthy snack for kids and their wacky cereals. Recent experiments show that giving ADHD kids sweet things did not really make a difference to their behavior. The same cannot be said for food colourings and additives though. These are now recognised as the real enemy, so to speak, and the USA is a bit behind Europe on this one. The European Parliament now wants a warning box or label on all foods that are using these colourings to the effect that they can cause behavior disorders.

Some experts have claimed that sugar is addictive and you become dependent on it. It is true that we suffer from withdrawal symptoms if we are denied our sugary snack so you can imagine how children react. Try a few spoonfuls of sugar on an empty stomach to experience a sugar high! Sugar and ADHD are related in a certain sense when we consider that if we feed a kid a nice sugary cereal for breakfast pus a few doughnuts, he may well have a hyperactive high caused by the adrenaline rush caused by the rapid increase in the glucose levels. When the effect wears off, there is a mood swing which may lead to lack of focus and lethargy and drowsiness. Much better to have some carbohydrates plus some protein such as eggs, soya or cheese for breakfast.

ADHD and sugar may not be so closely related but avoiding excess sugar and especially food colourings, remembering that they very often come in the same packet, is the most sensible thing we can do to avoid any exacerbation of ADHD symptoms such as hyperactivity, distractability and lack of concentration. In the case of doubt, it is better to avoid an ADHD and sugar combination.

Diet and nutrition are no cure for ADHD but reducing sugar, salt and processed foods are definitely the way to go as they are healthy choices to make. There is a more pressing choice to make and that is how you are going to manage your child’s behavior. Cutting down on ADHD sugar is not going to solve that problem. Following an ADHD behavior therapy course is going to help you though and there are effective courses which have helped parents to defeat verbal abuse and violence in the home. The second problem is related to medication and there are countless stories of children and teenagers who have been kept in a comatose state for many years on Ritalin. If you want to avoid all that, opt for a homeopathic remedy for ADHD as the ingredients are totally natural and help the body and mind to work in perfect balance. There are no side effects and it is a much cheaper option.

adhd low income

What can I do to improve myself?

I’m a male in my early twenties with low self-esteem, ADHD, social anxiety, and OCD, which is primarily obsessional fears about getting hurt by others and compulsions of checking. I don’t have any psychotic disorders, and I’ve tried medication, done therapy, so please, no outside suggestions, I’m just looking for some personal advice because I don’t know how to help myself.

I literally have no friends, I’m at home all the time with no income, and I’m not a student anymore either. I’m slowly losing all my savings, and soon I’ll have to sell my car, which I worked for previously. I’m also overweight and have never kissed a girl, so yeah, not good. Where do I start?

You can walk. Walking is free. You need a job badly. But while you don’t have one you can walk. The trick is just to do it. Get up, get dressed, go out and walk. Then write down how long you walked, and walk more tomorrow.
Get a job. Any job.
The girls, ect will come later. You don’t want them now anyway. This isn’t the real you. Walk, then run.

The Shocking Gluten-ADHD Link – Can Celiac Disease Cause ADHD?

If you’re wondering if wheat gluten & ADHD might be related to each other, then you are smart. Celiac disease which is an allergic reaction to wheat gluten is on the rise. In this article, you’ll learn more about the connection between Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and wheat gluten and what to do about it.

When a child is allergic to gluten (wheat protein), the lining of the small intestine gets compromised, which results in poor digestion and malabsorption of nutrients. This leads to gastrointestinal problems, but is also responsible for other issues related to malnourishment: poor growth and developmental delays which can lead to problems with learning and attention.Obviously, removing gluten from the diet is the first step in reversing the damage.

<b>Anecdotal Evidence for the ADHD-Gluten Diet Link</b>

<ul>
<li>Most kids who have disorders like ADHD have some form of IBS (inflammatory bowel syndrome). IBS is a classic symptom of celiac disease.
<li>Kids who have celiac disease often have a neurologic dysfunction, which is the hallmark of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. ADHD is a developmental disorder that seems to start in the brain, but may actually have its origins in the gut. If your child cannot get the nutrients that he needs from food, he is literally starving himself. We all know that the stomach feeds the brain.
<li>A two-week study of 31 children who were put on a gluten-free diet showed marked behavioral improvements in over half the kids.
</ul>

<b>Gluten-ADHD Diet Recommendations</b>

<ul>
<li>Since gluten is a protein that is found in wheat, barley and rye, eliminate these products from your child’s diet. Replace them with gluten-free products, but be sure to read the labels and make sure that there are no chemicals or preservatives. If your child is resistant to dietary changes, make them slowly over time.
<li>Eliminate casein from the diet (milk products). Many children who have the gluten-ADHD link are also allergic to milk protein.
<li>Purchase a Gluten-free cookbook and learn how to make healthy, delicious baked goods.
<li>Give your child a natural remedy designed to treat ADHD, so that his brain can heal more quickly from the damage done by celiac disease.
</ul>

Although following the recommendations for a ADHD gluten diet is important for kids with celiac disease, it’s not enough to just remove gluten from the diet. This is because it takes up to 12 months of following a gluten-free diet for ADHD symptoms to resolve. Additionally, since an adverse reaction to gluten has caused changes in your child’s brain and nervous system, it is essential to reverse the damage with a natural supplement designed specifically to suppress the symptoms of ADHD, while restoring proper brain function.

Since all supplements are not created equal, look for one that contains proven ingredients like Arsen Iod, Hyoscyamus and Verta Alb. Make sure the formulation has been approved by the FDA and that the company stands behind their product with a no-questions-asked guarantee. Such a guarantee proves that the company has done their research and is confident that their product works.  This is the best and safest way to boost the effectiveness of a no gluten ADHD diet and give your child the nutrients he needs to calm his brain, focus, pay attention and get back on track.

By respecting the ADHD gluten diet link, eliminating gluten and casein from the diet and giving your child a natural remedy to relieve symptoms and restore brain function, your child will come into his own and fulfill his unique potential. Don’t feel bad that you didn’t learn of this connection earlier: just follow the steps right now. You’ll be surprised at how fast your child recovers. After all, kids are much more resilient than we think.

I’ve heard of the feingold diet for ASD, ADHD, ADD..etc Does it really work ?

I’ve heard people telling me about this special diet for them, as you all would know I’m the mother of a 5 year old boy. He was diagnosed with ASD about a little over a month ago. I’ve been learning a lot but I’m kind of hesitant about this I don’t know a parent that can tell me for sure that they have used it and it has worked. Thank You in Advanced for all your comments I really need a lot of info. Any books or cookbooks that you could recommend?

Wow, Feingold, haven’t heard that in years.

I would say no to Controlling it (no diet will control ADHD), but yes to it being the right diet to put him on. I was diagnosed with ADHD in 1984, and my mother put me on the diet. As far as I remember, it was about all natural foods and not alot of substitutes.

Keep this in mind though. Sugar calmed me down as a kid. It was like a relaxer to me. I know that is uncommon, but a cup of juice and a few cookies (they were always Pepperidge farm) put me at ease and made me NOT harass my sisters.

One last thing. ADD and ADHD (dont know what ASD is) is Not a disease. It is NOT needed to be controlled with medication. ADD is the evolution of the human brain. The ability to process many different inputs at once. Of course a 6 year old is going to have trouble with this. Can a 6 year old bench press 220 lbs? No, the body isn’t capable of that yet. Stimulation is to the brain what physical exercise is to the body. Let his brain develop. In time he will use those skills to multitask and take on several projects at once. Medicating a 7 year old to calm down and focus on one subject is like putting a restrictor on a Ferrari and limiting it to 55 mph.

adhd evaluation scale

Conner’s Rating Scale – a Tool for Diagnosing Adhd

As more and more people have become aware of the occurrence of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, the incorrect diagnosis of the dysfunction has, unfortunately, become commonplace. One of the tricky things about ADHD is that all people, at one time or another, display some of the symptoms of the condition, and this is particularly true of children. It is important to understand that a correct diagnosis of ADHD can only be arrived at after measuring certain criterion, using certain tools. We will take a look at one of these tools and the criteria measured with it in this article.

Conner’s Rating Scale

This tool is used by parents, teachers, and also by the adolescent in order to report on criteria that he or she feels may be present. It has been designed specifically for ADHD testing, and is used in the first criterion for diagnosing ADHD.

The first criterion of correctly identifying the ADHD dysfunction states that in order to properly be diagnosed, the subject must have had six or more or the following symptoms evident for at least six month prior to the test. In addition, these symptoms must have played a disruptive and inappropriate role for that age level. The symptoms include:

Excessive talking

Blurting out at inappropriate times

Trouble getting activities organized

Frequent losing of objects needed for tasks or activities

A lack of focus on tasks

Careless mistakes or a lack of close attention to details

Failure to complete tasks and to follow instructions

Dislikes prolonged mental effort

Easily distracted

Trouble awaiting a turn

Interrupts

Fidgeting

Frequently “on the go”

As you can see from this list, many of the criteria used to diagnose ADHD are also a part of the natural development of any child. That is why it is so important to measure the child’s symptoms over a period of time, using the correct tools, such as Conner’s rating system.

Although the initial evaluation needs to be done at a personal level, no diagnosis of ADHD is correct without the support of a psychiatrist. Again, it is imperative to note that ADHD follows very strict parameters; misdiagnosing a child could result in irreversible damage.

How NOT to Diagnose ADHD – Pitfalls to Avoid

Here are some pitfalls to avoid when you want to diagnose ADHD or better still, have it diagnosed by a suitably qualified health care professional. The first thing to do is to make sure that you are not given a diagnosis after ten minutes. The correct way to diagnose ADHD takes a lot longer. If you have been given a prescription for powerful mind-altering drugs after such a short visit, then you should be suspicious and seek a second opinion.

The first thing the specialist should do is to ask for a brief medical family history. As there is a definite genetic link in that about 25% of patients may have a close relative who suffers from ADHD, then this could be useful. Many adults themselves only discover they have ADHD when they bring their own children to be diagnosed.

The second thing to be done is to eliminate other conditions which have rather similar symptoms. These could include thyroid problems, lead poisoning, anxiety, depression and seizures which have gone undetected. Sometimes a traumatic or dramatic event in the family can also produce ADHD like symptoms.

Many health care professionals do not want to be bothered too much with the questionnaires to diagnose ADHD but these must be done as one is for the child’s teacher and her observations are an important element in the ADHD puzzle. Once all this information is gathered, the doctor may consult the DSM manual, the 4th edition, and then decide. Just because there is an ADHD symptom or two, does not necessarily mean that it is ADHD. It is much more complex than that! Another pitfall to avoid is to steer clear of professionals who give rough and ready diagnosis at the drop of a hat.

We do not know the exact cause of ADHD and indeed it may be due to a number of causes working in tandem. The main emphasis now in ADHD diagnosis is that of a chemical imbalance in the brain. One can think of it as rather like having a poor signal on your mobile. The ADHD child is having very similar problems in organizing input and indeed in getting his act together like simple tasks which require focus and or attention.

Life experiences plus environmental factors may also play a decisive role in the causes of ADHD and also how they interact with the biological factor.

If the specialist knows how to diagnose ADHD correctly, then there is a good chance that he might prescribe the right treatment which is some medication combined with child behavior modification techniques. Why not learn more about medication options by visiting my website below.

What can I do about my psychiatrist who says adults don’t have ADHD?

I know I have it because I fit all the DSM IV criteria and I have a classic ADHD lifestyle and work/education history, but my psychiatrist is treating me for Bipolar Disorder even though my symptoms persist. What can I do? p.s. Adults do have ADHD and there is an Adult ADHD clinic in Cambridge, UK, where I live.

CHANGE YOUR DOCTOR/PSYCHIATRIST. does he/she think that children with adhd suddenly reach a certain age and it dissapears? if only.
Im 39 and i have adhd though it wasnt diagnosed till i reached adulthood, though in ur shrinks defence a lot of symptoms of bipolar, aspergers, mild autism adhd etc do overlap with each other and a firm diagnosis isnt always easy to make.
I live in rotherham and the shrink i see specialises in adhd in children and adults.
Get in touch with the adhd clinic u mention and ask for their advice and remember adhd is for life, not just for xmas lol.
Though it can be treated/ eased substantialy with the use of medication, lifestyle and dietary changes.
good luck.

No More Medication for Add-adhd – an All Natural Alternative for Children With Add-adhd

There are about 24 million children who are diagnosed with ADD/ADHD and now there are many adults being diagnosed also. Most of them if most all are on some form of medication like Ritalin.

There are other ways to get relief other than medication. There are many cases where medication has even made things worse. That is what this is about an alternative for those parents who do not like the affect medication is having on their children.

There is a foundation to good health that most people have never heard of before, mainly because there is not a lot of money in the medical field for staying healthy.

Basically there is a whole industry centered around ADD/ADHD and billions of dollars to be made with the medication. Do we want our children medicated or healthy?

With that being said the question arises what is the key foundation to good health? It is actually pretty simple it is “alkalizing the body.”

When the body is at the proper ph level that is alkalized it is brought to a natural state of balance which leads to optimal healthful condition. The ph scale measures the acidity or alkalinity in the body. The scale goes form 1-14. The lower the number the more acidic the higher the number the more alkaline our bodies are. We need to be in between 7-9 to be at our healthiest.

When the body is too acidic it leads to ill health like cancer, disease and other common illnesses. Natural unpolluted lake water is at about 7.5, which is where the body should be. By the way soda is at about 3 which is very acidic which is unfit for human consumption.

Another question is what leads to an acidic body? Life itself can lead to being acidic like, stress, metal attitudes, certain foods, exercise, environmental pollution and other sources. In the case of ADD/AADHD the child’s body is too acidic. Once the child’s body is alkalized he or she calms down and is able to function better mentally which leads to becoming a happier and healthier child or adult.

So the next question is how do you alkalize the body. Taking proper nutrition. Mainly taking minerals which do the alkalizing like calcium, magnesium and the other minerals we need in our bodies. Which most of us do not get through the foods we eat, especially processed foods.

How does all this tie into ADD/ADHD? What we are finding out is that with proper nutrition for alkalizing we are seeing parents decreasing medication and in many cases stopping medication all together. Which parents are thrilled about.

We advise using the nutrition in conjunction with the medication. That is when parents are seeing the dramatic changes and decide to decrease or stop medication. Of course this is done with keeping the Physician informed.

If you are not satisfied with the medication your child is on this may be an alternative for you.

RITALIN: Pros and Cons? Whats life like for ADHD Adults on Ritalin.?

Please help me by giving me some Pros and Cons of Ritalin use in young adults (18+) with moderate-severe ADHD.

And maybe answer a couple of Q’s-
1) What is an average dose (or dose scale) of immediate release Ritalin Tablets
2) What is life like on Ritalin? how does it help you in your life?
3) Should it be taken nd is it ‘OK’ to take it continuously (everyday), if so will it continue to work as desired or is there a risk of dose escallation?
4) What are the disadvantages for your health?

If you are going to write down anything about ADHD not being real or that i shouldn’t take ritalin- that’s fine, but please give a detailed explanation of your thoughts.

Thanks for helping.

I’m a 22 yr old male and take Ritalin daily for ADHD and depression.

1) Average dosage is from 10mg-60mg a day (Some doctors will go up to 80mg for adults)
2) Life is great on ritalin for me anyways. I am alot more calm, less moody, more focused. I can get things done more than before. I also have kept the same job for the last 18 months and before ritalin I’d get a new job every few months. I also have less depression and am easier to get along with.
3) I was on 60mg but now am down to 40mg a day. I dont need a dose escalation and the effects remain constant for me. People who keep going for higher and higher dosages are doing it for the euphoria.. If you use ritalin to help with focus and drive it will always be good but if you’re chasing the high then you will keep having to up the dosgae.
4) Disadvantages for my health? I’d say sleeping problems and loss of appetite could cause nutritional deficiencies. I howevr have no sleeping problems and get a good 8 hours a night. I also try and force myself to eat even when I can’t. I supplement omega-3 fish oil capsules, Multivitamin/multimineral tablet, B-vitamin complex which helps alot, as well as I take 1000mg of magnesium before bed (which is said to keep tolerance down and it definetly works). So remember to sleep and eat on it that will take away alot of the negative long term effects.

Ritalin is great if used correctly. I take 40mg of Biphentin once daily. It’s a very long lasting preparation of Ritalin available in Canada but not in the USA. I like the instant release forms better though but my doctor is reluctant to prescribe any I.R. form where I had a past addiction to opiates. But it is great stuff when used properly.

Grow Taller Age – How to Grow Taller Naturally at Any Age

Grow Taller Age

Many people think that if you don’t grow taller by 18-20 years, you will never grow taller. This is not entirely true. It is possible to increase height after puberty if you do the right things at the right time. I’m not saying it is easy, but it certainly is doable to add a few extra inches to your height even in your 30’s.

If you want to learn how to grow taller naturally, you will have to alter your diet and lifestyle, sometimes, dramatically.

One of the most important aspects of increasing height is proper diet and nutrition. Consume foods and drinks that contain lots of calcium and amino acids, as well as proteins and calories. These nutrients will help your body develop growth hormone, which is directly responsible for making your body grow.

I will explain why each of these nutrients is very important for hgh (human growth hormone) production. Grow Taller Age

First of all – calcium. Calcium replaces the old cells in your body with new ones. This is especially important for your bones, as well as other tissues in your body. Diary products are very rich in calcium so I advise implementing them into your daily diet.

Regarding amino acids and proteins – these will also help you grow taller naturally. These are basically the building blocks of life, so in order to supplement your tissues, muscles, organs and bones with the “blocks” which will make them grow taller, you will have to consume lots of products that are rich in proteins and amino acids.

Mostly people consider consuming calories is bad. Not always. You will need calories to help your body grow taller naturally. Of course, you must keep them in balance and alter your diet. Do not spend all day eating chocolate.

So despite you being past puberty, a healthy and balanced diet will be the first step towards your journey to increase height naturally and safely with no dangerous surgeries or risky methods. This, however, is not the only thing you must do. There are also exercises that need to be performed and certain lifestyle choices you will have to make. Grow Taller Age

Adult ADD: do supplements help? which ones?

I suspect that I have ADD and one psychiatrist actually confirmed this, but I am very very hesitant to go on ritalin. For a start, I would like to try and improve my condition the natural way. Can you list supplements that can help? Any tips in general to deal with the problem (could be organizational tips or anything what worked for you)?

In case it matters: I am 22 female, very healthy otherwise and quite health conscious, graduate student in electrical engineering (which is the worst place to have ADD).

Thanks in advance!

You could start with several different vitamins that may help you.

*Vitamin D (2000 iu to 5000 iu)
*Amino Acid L-Tyrosine (1000mg to start) Take on empty stomach
*Vitamin C (2000 mg or more)
*Vitamin B (A good complex that includes all the necessary ones. Country life makes one called Cellular Active B-Complex Capsules)
*Vitamin B3 (Niacin or niacinamide. It can cause flushing at higher levels so you might start at 100mg and work your way up)
*Magnesium (500mg) Comes in many different forms. Effective supplements include Magnesium Citrate, Mag. Malate, Mag. taurate Even Epson Salts are good.
*Iodine 200 mcg

The vitamins and minerals I listed are the ones that most people are deficient in and could be contributing to your problem. Review the links and see what you think might be most helpful.

Adhd Is A Gift

Important Pointers When Parenting A Adhd Child

Parenting a ADHD child can be a bit of a rollercoaster ride emotionally. ADHD children can be funny, inspirational creative, and gifted in lots of ways, as well as having challenging behaviors.

A child with ADHD needs special care and attention. Providing the best possible attention and care for your child requires a deep understanding of what ADHD is all about. The first vital step is for parents to learn how ADHD affects their child at home, in school and socially.

Significantly, there are 3 main symptoms of ADHD: Hyperactivity, Inattention and Impulsiveness.

• Hyperactivity – This is said to be the most understood yet misunderstood indication of ADHD. This is the inability of a child to sit still for any period of time. Playing with objects, fidgeting, talking too much, and being in constant motion are some examples of hyperactivity.

• Inattention – This is either the inability to give attention to a specific matter, or flitting from one thing to another. A child with ADHD finds it hard to block out distractions and concentrate on one specific item or task. Some symptoms of inattention are daydreams, distraction from work, making careless mistakes and being disorganized.

• Impulsiveness -This means “living in the moment”. A child with ADHD tends to takes hold of everything that is interesting for him or her. They may immediately grab something without worrying if it might be inappropriate or without considering any consequences that may arise from that action. In short, they act before they think. A child who cannot wait for things, interrupts other people, and answers questions before they’re even finished being asked displays impulsiveness.

These symptoms can make it exhausting and seem time consuming to raise a child with ADHD.

So, here are some steps parents can take to help them in raising kids with ADHD:

1. Join a support group. This can be really helpful as you benefit from the experiences of others and can bounce ideas off each other.

2. Be aware of your child’s ADHD – most of the time they are not being naughty and ignoring or defying you. The reason for their actions is because of the ADHD. It is important for parents to discern the difference between the being naughty and defiant, and the symptoms of ADHD.

3. Just like any family establishing a child-parent relationship is extremely important. For this relationship to work, parents need to make time for their child. The emphasis here is on quality time rather than quantity. An hour spent watching TV together is no the same as 15 minutes talking and listening to your child. Find time in your day to incorporate ways of spending quality time with your child for example around the dinner table or before bedtime.

4. Be a good role model to your child. Children usually imitate the behaviors that they witness so make sure you show them positive examples.

5. It is okay to be firm, yet kind to discipline your child. Be sure to remain calm especially when facing difficult situations. Establish ground rules and expectations about behaviors, be clear on what will happen if these rules are broken and always follow through with the punishment. Just as important is to acknowledge when your child has done something right. Ensure you give them praise and rewards for good behavior too. It is all too easy to focus on the negative and forget the good stuff.

6. Tell your child that you love them. ADHD sufferers are used to hearing how naughty they have been and they can often fail to realize that parents love them. By feeling loved and wanted children’s self-esteem and behavior can improve.

My brother has ADHD is there anything in life that he can not do because of this disorder?

My brother is 4 years older than I am. However he is extremely gifted. You see I was wondering because I always thought you can do anything you want if you’re a hard worker and smart enough.

My friends tell me that most likely he’ll wind up a teacher, which I doubt, but I just wanted to know. Can ADHD bar you from doing anything?

I have no idea why he’d end up a teacher of all things, but no, there are recommendations against sugar and caffeine or messing up your sleep schedule, but nothing you can’t do.
