i need to ask a question af any kids that may be in middle school right now that have adhd or anger problems?
what can i do to help my child that is 11 yr with anger problems……what helped for you…..i havealways just asked parents but want a adolescents opinion…..did counseling help you?……..why did you think it was ok to behave this way?
when did you realize that you were only hurting yourself
I’m not an adolescent but am in the same situation with my 14 yr. old stepson…who has ADHD…and anger problems as well.
His ADHD is pretty much controlled with Concerta. He takes 27 mg. once a day. This helps with his attention. He can concentrate on things, that on any normal day, would not have his attention for more than a few minutes. It has helped a little with his behavior in school as well. He still has the little quirks of sticking a pencil in his ear or eye, bouncing his legs and even daydreaming. But they’re fewer times a day since he’s taking medicine. We’ve had problems in school before the medication and he even got expelled for 3 days. He still doesn’t focus like he should but he’s getting there. He goes back to the Dr. next week and she will up his dose to see if that helps.
The anger issue is separate. It’s a puberty thing. Your childs’ hormones are totally out of whack. Their mind is still thinking along that of a child but their body is changing and they have no control over it. My stepson has his anger fits two or three times a day. It drives me crazy! You can control his anger by doing one thing…when he gets angry or wants to argue…just walk away. It irritates the hell out of them because it takes the one thing away that gives them satisfaction. It takes you out of a stressful situation. They can’t argue if you’re not there.
Pick and choose your battles with your child. The ones that you can sense are just going to end up in a senseless fight…let them go. Getting into those arguments only gets the two of you angrier and you lose control of the situation. We learned all of this from counseling, plus more.
