Adhd Diet Children

adhd diet children

ADHD diet, what do typical meals look like?

Parents who use the adhd diet for your child, or even yourself, what are some sample meal menus you feed your child. Like give a daily schedule of what your child might eat for Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and snacks. Is it pretty much meat, fruits and vegies that the kids can eat? Are things like crackers, goldfish, pretzils and animal crackers ok???
Thanks so much Alicia, I was so excited to see an answer that actually answered the question! Thumbs up for you!

Kids on ADHD diets can eat meat, most fruits and veggies, and some carbohydrates. However the carbohydrates must be complex carbs (ie: whole grain) and low on sugar. Also no artificial colors, preservatives, etc so you will want to consider eating organic foods.

Also, sometimes they have to experiment with eliminating certain foods to check for food intolerances. For example gluten, nuts, dairy, etc.

Whole wheat crackers, pretzels etc is fine. I wouldn’t do animal crackers as those are simple carbs/sugars and contain preservatives.

While I know some kids who use special diets for ADHD, autism… I don’t have anything specific for you. However I found a sample idea online:

breakfast

Eggs
whole wheat toast with butter (real please)
1/2 a banana or a whole one if your child can handle the sugar
whole milk not skim
1 magnesium tablet
good quality multivitamin

Snack

Cheese
whole grain crackers

Lunch

Peanut butter with dried fruit spread (no sugar, just heat dried fruit with water to cover and then run through the blender) on whole grain bread.
carrot sticks
popcorn (not the little microwave bags ….they have chemicals)
2 homemade cookies (you can make these with sugar, if they aren’t eating it elsewhere a little at meal time is not a problem, more than likely)
milk

Snack

peanut butter and celery
Dinner
Grilled chicken
Brown rice
Salad
Broccoli
whole grain rolls
Homemade dessert of some sort
2 magnesium tabs

Lots of pure water. LOTS. This should be the main refreshment.
If your child wakes up with nausea, cranky, shakey, or is showing other signs of blood sugar issues add to the above diet:
1 oz of cheese (1 cube) or other protein before bed. AND 1 oz of cheese (or a coupleof whole grain peanut butter crackers) when you wake them up. BEFORE they get out of bed.
