Do ADHD children misbehave at home? Is it possible to only show symptoms at school?
I am very frustrated. My daughters teacher called and told me she “suspects” she may have ADHD. She just started kindergarten and is extremely bright (she scored above average on all her assesments) and mature. She has been “misbehaving in school” ie not staying iin her seat, talking, not paying attention Sometimes, not constantly all day everyday. When she is at home I do not see the behavior that she is refereing to.
Personally, I think that my daughter is bored as she comes from a strong Montessori background and already know the stuff that the teacher is teaching them. I am going to have her tested for both (iq and adhd) but everything that I have pulled up om the internet just reinforces that I think she is fine.

Parents and teachers will put kids on ADHD medicine in order to control their behavior. If your child has ADHD it will be all the time not just at school. I wouldn’t worry. Coming from a a Montessori program, kids are encouraged to move around. I suspect she is bored in class. Also as an educator, she can not mention anything about a child having ADHD. You make sure to tell her that. She is not a licensed physician and it is out of line. What your child’s teacher needs to do is make more exciting things for your child. Teachers assess their students constantly and it is her job to see where she is at and develop a curriculum that will address your child’s needs. Kids will act out when they are bored. Also I would ask the teacher to have her tested for GT (Gifted and Talented). There is no need to waste your money to have her tested. There are professionals in the district that do that. You are the sole person that knows what is right for you child. If you decide to put her on medicine and she doesn’t need it then your child will become another person. I have had students act like small zombies, experience depression and have no appetite. I don’t think that medicine is not bad it is only reserved for the people that need it. It is not a form of behavior intervention.
